Giant Critter Scales fall under the uncommon category of crafting resources in Enshrouded, and they're used for a variety of advanced armor recipes. They're one of the many materials you need to gather if you want to progress through the tech tree, but unlike most of the other resources you've encountered up to this point, you may find Giant Critter Scales a bit more elusive than usual. As their name suggests, they drop from Giant Critters, and if you aren't having much luck finding one in Enshrouded, here's a quick guide to help you out.

Where to Find Giant Critter Scales in Enshrouded

Enshrouded Giant Critter Scales shroud root location

You can find this crafting material from the enormous critters (Fell Critter Queens) in caves, usually ones with Shroud Roots. The earliest and most convenient location to go to is the Shroud Root near the Passage to the Blackmire, which is at the western edge of the map and due north of the Cinder Vault. You can easily reach this area by going to the top of one of the towers in Revelwood and gliding down. Get as close to the map marker as you can from the nearby Ancient Spire, then look for a cave entrance inside the Shrouded area.

Of course, you'll need to level up your Flame before you can reach this part of the map. Get your Flame to a point where the Shroud won't instantly kill you, and maybe try to get some good gear first. You'll want a weapon with good area damage if you want to make Giant Critter Scale farming easier.

Once you make it to the Shroud Root, search the area for the giant critter queen near the central section of the cave. We recommend cutting down the Shroud Root itself first in order to get rid of the fog. As for the giant critter, it should be hard to miss — it's several heads taller than your character, and it's often surrounded by smaller critters. It's not that hard to take down with a few good hits from a strong weapon in Enshrouded. Just try not to get swarmed by the critters and other Shroud monsters while you're trying to get Giant Critter Scales.

What Are Giant Critter Scales For?

For the most part, Giant Critter Scales are used for crafting the chest pieces for the following armor sets:

Adventurer
Tank
Marksman
Ranger
Mage
Healer

These sets also require materials that can be obtained in the Revelwood region, such as Indigo Plants, Copper, and Amber. You also need Giant Critter Scales to make the Ghostly Shield, which is a basically a bracelet that creates a cool energy ward that blocks attacks.
