Hunter x Hunter chapter 406 starts where the last chapter ended, with the Phantom Troupe trio, Nobunaga, Phinks, and Feitan, going through the locked door that was finally opened to them by the Cha-R family. In this chapter, this trio is being led up some stairs by the Vice Boss of Cha-R, Tajao.

Where they're led through would reach the top of Tier 2 if they continue up the stairs. The area they’re passing through is where waste from the 200,000 people on board the Black Whale is funneled. This area is managed by the Mafia families, but the work done there is specifically handled by subcontractors. This led to Nobunaga theorizing that the Heil-Ly took over the roles of waste disposal contractors as a disguise to be able to kill many more people and level up.

There, Nobunaga decided to split off from the group and go back down. This means that one Phinks and Feitan will be heading to the Heil-Ly hideout, somewhere where only Nobunaga has been alongside Hinrigh a couple of chapters ago. Nobunaga informs the other two about some of the abilities they’ll encounter there and that they can only really attack there in self-defense or risk being kicked out.

If that “someone” is in the Phantom Troupe… then we’ll have to fight the Cha-R. It’s definitely not a fight that should happen based on pure guesswork, though… — Zakuro

Nobunaga’s current goal is unclear, and fans will have to wait and see what Togashi has been planning with him as he is one of the Spiders with the most focus in this arc.

It must also be noted that Hinrigh’s oyster transmitter also turned back into its original form, as it ran out of Nen. This means that it is only a matter of time before it’s found by Heil-Ly members, meaning Phinks and Feitan have limited time to act and reach the hideout.

The Xi-Yu Will Hunt Down Her Killer

In the previous chapter of HxH, fans discovered that the Hisoka they originally saw that was found by the Xi-Yu was a fake. In reality, it was Bonolenov using his Nen ability. Some unknown events that happened during that encounter unfolded, one of which was Bonolenov killing Lynch, a Xi-Yu member, as she discovered that he was the fake Hisoka. While Bonolenov did try to cover it up, HxH chapter 406 shows that one needs more than that to outsmart a character like Hinrigh.

In HxH 406, Hinrigh was informed that the corpse of Lynch was found. It is clear that whoever killed her is a pro, as her neck was twisted skillfully. At first, they believe it might be a hitman from the Heil-Ly, but this changes as Zakuro reveals more information. Zakuro did not believe “Hisoka” was behind this, as he would have killed him as well. He does mention that the Lynch he talked to after waking up was behaving abnormally. As was seen in the chapter, Hinrigh initially suggested that the Lynch they saw was not the real one, but Zakuro feels someone manipulating her makes more sense.

The two quickly come to the conclusion that the culprit might be a member of the Phantom Troupe and that they will avenge Lynch. This might mark the end of the relationship between the Phantom Troupe and the Xi-Yu, with them possibly going after one of the members, likely either Nobunaga or Bonolenov.

Undoubtedly, the most interesting character in HxH 406 was Chrollo. Chrollo has been an especially fascinating character in this arc, and he will only get more time to shine as this arc continues. In HxH 405, fans got a glimpse of him, but now they get to see what he is up to.

In this chapter, Chrollo was seen standing among the people during Prince Halkenburg’s funeral procession. Given that it was the most crowded area on the Black Whale, Chrollo took advantage of this to use a Nen ability fans have never seen him deploy before, known as Love Dial 6700. This Nen ability allows him to conjure a cell phone where he can search for someone he is looking for. If the person he’s looking for is found, the ability will give him directions. Chrollo tried this ability among the crowd but to no avail, as the person he was dialing turned out to be too far. That said, Love Dial 6700 has a set number of uses, and it’s unknown how many Chrollo has left.

For the first time, fans got a proper look at the 3 treasures of the Kakin Empire, which Chrollo is planning to steal. If Chrollo manages to steal these, he will be able to utilize Skill Hunter to gain a powerful and rare Nen ability. These 3 treasures are the Seed Urn, the Lotus Anchorite, and the Sword of Good Omens.

Chrollo doesn’t exactly know where to find these artifacts yet, but he believes they have to be on the first tier of the Black Whale. These treasures could all be hidden together, or each in a separate location for extra security. That said, stealing them will not be an easy task, even for Chrollo.

As things stand, Chrollo wants to get the rare Nen ability to take down Hisoka, but there’s a chance he will run into him before he gets the opportunity. Chrollo is, however, ready to die if it comes to that.

Later down the line in the chapter, Chrollo tried his Love Dial 6700 call again, and this time, he did get a better result, as he finally figured out the person is above him. Who this person is, however, is unknown, and fans will have to wait and see who Chrollo is tracking. The number of times he can still use Love Dial 6700 seems to be important, as Togashi is purposely keeping that a secret for now. So far, to fans’ knowledge, he has used it twice. What comes next is only going to excite readers more.
