Hyper Light Breaker has shared an ambitious content roadmap for spring 2025. In addition to outlining the game's next three updates, the plan also provides an overview of some major Hyper Light Breaker features set to arrive during its early access phase.

Developed by California-based studio Heart Machine, Hyper Light Breaker is an open-world roguelite that aims to solve an "impossible" problem in game design: creating procedurally generated worlds that players can get lost in for hours while maintaining a fast enough pace to allow multiple runs per hour. Envisioned as a prequel to Heart Machine's debut title, the 2016 action RPG Hyper Light Drifter, the game debuted in Steam Early Access on January 14.

Why Hyper Light Breaker Can't Break Away From Illness as a Theme

Hyper Light Drifter gained attention for its honest portrayal of living with terminal illness, something Hyper Light Breaker will not ignore.

A month later, Heart Machine shared the latest edition of the roguelite's roadmap, outlining its near-term plans for Hyper Light Breaker. The agenda starts with this month's update, which is scheduled to arrive on February 18, introducing a new player character, additional Holobytes, more enemies, and new Affixes. Some performance improvements will also be part of the package, together with bug fixes and a bunch of minor tweaks meant to rebalance the game's selection of gear. The February 2025 patch will also aim to partially rebalance combat.

More Hyper Light Breaker gameplay changes are planned for next month, when Heart Machine will continue its combat and gear rebalancing efforts with another update. The March 2025 patch, which is currently without a concrete release date, will also introduce additional Blades, Affixes, Holobytes, and enemies, as well as a new Assassin.

The monthly update that follows will be a major content drop that Heart Machine considers worthy of having its own name: Buried Below. This patch, slated for April 2025, promises to improve the game's onboarding experience, likely by revamping its tutorials. Yet another Assassin and even more enemies will also be part of Buried Below, together with a new player character, Crown, and even more areas for Hyper Light Breaker players to explore.

Looking beyond early spring 2025, the open-world roguelite is set to receive new gameplay features, bosses, and Elites. Heart Machine also plans to expand the game's selection of procedurally generated biomes and introduce more Blades, Rails, and Amps, among other additions. On top of that, the developer confirmed it's working on more story content, including a true ending. An additional difficulty mode designed to spice up Hyper Light Breaker’s endgame is also in development, along with a new progression system.
