Players can collect and create many different materials in Hytale, and those processes are usually quite straightforward. That said, some players may have questions about the game's approach to glass. Indeed, Hytale handles glass somewhat differently than games like Minecraft and Terraria, and this guide is here to elaborate upon that statement.

This guide was written at the beginning of Hytale's early access period. As such, the information that it presents may become inaccurate as the game receives updates, and it may require revisions in the future.

How to Make Glass in Hytale

Glass Bottles

At the time of writing, it is possible to make glass bottles (Empty Potion Bottles), but it is not possible to make a simple glass block or pane. Players can create glass bottles by performing the following actions, and they can be placed as decoration or put to use after an Alchemist's Workbench has been established:

  1. Build a Furnace. Furnaces can be made at the standard Workbench, which is created through the Pocket Crafting menu, and they require six tree trunks and six stones.
  2. Insert a fuel source into the Furnace's fuel slot. Sticks, tree trunks, plant fibers, and charcoal all serve as perfectly suitable fuel sources.
  3. Insert any sand block into one of the Furnace's input slots. Now press "Turn On" beneath the fuel source to start the smelting.

Sand blocks can be obtained by hitting the sand in desert biomes, which appear on the map as large yellow areas, with a pickaxe. Notably, players may see yellow markings along rivers in other biomes, though the blocks that they represent yield sandstone, not sand.

Builder's Workbench

While players may be disappointed by the absence of a simple transparent block, they may be happy to learn that it is still possible to create windows. This is done by inserting any type of log into the Builder's Workbench and choosing the window from the options that appear. For the uninitiated, the Builder's Workbench can be made through the Pocket Crafting menu, which is accessed by pressing Tab and clicking on the hammer to the right of the character portrait, and it requires four tree trunks and three stones.

There are a couple of different windows that can be created in the Builder's Workbench, and players should try inserting a variety of logs, like oak and birch, into the crafting station to find one that will be good for their builds in Hytale.
