Leather is a staple resource in many crafting-based games, and Hytale is no exception. Many crafting recipes and upgrades in the game require varying kinds and amounts of Leather, so you'll want to get a decent stockpile of this material ready at all times.
Getting Leather in Hytale is fairly simple, though it can be a little time-consuming, especially if you take the different kinds of Leather into account. If you're wondering how to make some for yourself, here's a quick guide to help you out.

How to Craft Leather in Hytale
Leather is made by getting animal hides and drying them in Tanning Racks. You can make a Tanning Rack by first building a Workbench and collecting the following resources:
- 6 of any Tree Trunk
- 3 of any Stone
- 3 Light Hide
Tree Trunks and Stone are quite literally everywhere, while Light Hide can only be obtained by hunting small animals like pigs and rabbits. Cows also drop Light Hide despite being much bigger animals. If you see any of these, hunt them down, and you should get some Light Hide for your trouble.
Now that you have a Tanning Rack, you'll then need to find even more animal hides. Here's a quick list of hide types in Hytale as well as known animals that drop them:
|
Item |
Source |
|
Light Hide (for Light Leather) |
Rabbits Goats Pigs Cows Deer/Stag |
|
Medium Hide (for Medium Leather) |
Wolves Fen Stalkers |
|
Heavy Hide (for Heavy Leather) |
Bears Mosshorns |
The best way to get any sort of hide for leatherworking is to make an animal ranch. You can lure and tame animals in Hytale, which will let you create all sorts of farms for all sorts of purposes. Find and capture any of the livestock animals in the list above so you can get as much animal hide as you want at any time.
You'll be able to spot all sorts of animals just by exploring the world, though the biome that you're currently in has a major effect on the types of entities you see while exploring. Fen Stalkers, for example, only appear in swamp/marsh biomes, and they're quite common too. If you want to get a lot of Medium Leather, going to a swamp and hunting Fen Stalkers is a good idea.
After you've collected animal hides, simply place them into your Tanning Rack. They'll automatically turn into different types of Leather after a while. For faster processing, place down another Tanning Rack or two.
