Rope is an explorer's best friend in Hytale. If you're going to dive deep into the underground caves of Orbis, you're most definitely going to need some sort of way to go up and down different levels, and while you can absolutely do things the old-fashioned way and just build block towers, rope can make things significantly more convenient for everyone in the expedition group. If you're not quite sure how to make Rope in Hytale, here's a quick pointer.

How to Craft Rope in Hytale
As of writing, Rope can only be crafted at a Builder's Workbench, where all building-related blocks and pieces are made. To make Rope, you'll need to gather Plant Fiber by cutting down thick grass, shrubs, bushes, and other similar flora. One Plant Fiber equals one length of Rope.
Rope in Hytale functions much like how ladders would, making it an especially useful tool to have when playing with friends. You can go up and down a line of Rope, and you connect multiple lengths together to create a long chain. However, as of writing, Rope placement is a bit finnicky. You can't place Rope on top of another piece of Rope, and if you want to make a Rope line that leads deeper down into a new area, you'll have to start your line along a wall. This will let you use the wall as a snap point for your next Rope piece.
This can prove to be pretty problematic when exploring large underground chasms. Players will need to get creative placing pieces of Rope while they're descending, and in some cases (particularly when you're trying to reach a higher level), it might be better to just use ladders instead.
Diagonal Ropes
You can also craft Diagonal Rope pieces instead of the normal vertical ones, but placing these down is extra confusing. They simply refuse to snap to each other, and they don't appear to have the same gripping properties as ladders and their vertical counterparts. It seems like Diagonal Rope mainly exists as decorative building pieces, so if you plan on bringing these for traversal, don't bother.
Traversal Tip
The best use-case for Rope as of Hytale early access is for reaching places that are high up, such as ores stuck on high walls or ceilings. However, if something is too high and you can't place a Rope onto the ceiling, then it's best to just use ladders instead since you can place a ladder down on top of another.
Another thing worth keeping in mind is that the old Minecraft water elevator trick also works in Hytale. If you want to go down into a very deep hole, get a bucket of water and dump it over the edge to create a tunnel that you can swim through. This should also keep you from getting burnt by lava when you're trying to get Cindercloth or other underground materials.
Lastly, you can use the Dual Daggers' charged attacks to jump incredible distances. If you can't be bothered to use Rope to climb ledges, then doing this might do the trick.
