Every Hytale world is randomly generated, and while this does mean that the exact size and scope of zones and biomes in each individual world are different, how they function does not change. Resources that spawn exclusively in the Devastated Lands will never spawn anywhere else, and enemies that call the Howling Sands home will never venture into the Emerald Grove.
Knowing what you can expect to see when they venture into a new zone or biome is crucial information to have for those who don’t want to waste their time exploring in the wrong direction. This guide goes in-depth and covers all the main resources you can find in each zone and biome as well as the danger level you can expect when you go there. Here are the details.
All Types of Wood in Hytale & Where to Find Them
From Goldenwood to Lightwood, here are the locations of all types of wood in Hytale.
All Zones and Biomes in Hytale
There are four main zones in the current version of Hytale, each with multiple different biomes.
- Emerald Grove (Zone 1)
- Howling Sands (Zone 2)
- Whisperfrost Frontiers (Zone 3)
- Devastated Lands (Zone 4)
Emerald Grove (Zone 1)
Emerald Grove, or the Emerald Wilds, is the starting zone in Hytale, filled with lush greenery, thick forests, and open plains. As an introduction to the gameplay loop, you won’t find too many threats here to take note of, especially during the day. At night, some troublesome enemies come out of the woodwork, but nothing too difficult.
The main resources to gather here are Copper and Iron ore, both found inside the ground, which means you’ll need to venture into natural caves and do some digging to get your hands on them. Additionally, Emerald Grove is also an excellent place to capture horses, a mount you can use to make traversal easier and faster. You’ll also find plenty of chickens, sheep, cows, pigs, and other farm animals here if you’re interested.
The forests of Emerald Grove contain Oak, Beech, Aspen, Birch, and Maple trees. Azure Trees spawn exclusively in the Azure Forests and are the only source of Azure Logs in the game. While here, also keep an eye out for Azure Kelp in the waters, a resource you’ll need for certain recipes in the game.

Best Healing Items in Hytale
Here are the best food and drinks (and magical implements) you can use to heal yourself in Hytale.
Howling Sands (Zone 2)
The Howling Sands zone is the desert region in Hytale, complete with dunes, mountains, savannahs, oases, and fossil sites. It is a much more dangerous area compared to the Emerald Grove, as it contains hostile enemies in the form of Hyenas, Sabertooth Tigers, and Scarak swarms that can easily kill a player given half a chance.
The resource of note here is Thorium Ore, a green ore that is the next step in Hytale’s progression after Iron. Thorium can be found both above and below ground, and can be spotted on the map as a green pixel if it is above-ground. You’ll want to bring an Iron Pickaxe to mine Thorium. You’ll also find plenty of Copper and Iron in the underground caves found in the Howling Sands zone, meaning if you want to completely skip the starting zone and head straight into the desert, you can. Just be prepared for a fight.
Players can find Gumboab, Dry, Bottletree, Palm, and Palo trees in the Howling Sands region. The surface of the desert is relatively sparse when it comes to resources, but points of interest like underground mineshafts, enemy strongholds, and Scarak nests offer valuable rewards for players willing and able to explore them.

All Ore Locations in Hytale
Here is where to find every ore in Hytale, what they look like, and the best locations to farm them in bulk.
Whisperfrost Frontiers (Zone 3)
The Whisperfrost Frontiers is the snow region in Hytale, consisting of snow-capped mountains, winter forests, and gigantic glaciers that cover the land and the sea. The main threats in this zone are Polar Bears that roam the snow, the Yetis that live up in the mountains, and the Outlander fighters holed up in their strongholds.
Whisperfrost Frontiers is where you will first start running into Cobalt, the next tier of ore after Thorium. It is a dull, blue-colored ore that appears embedded in dark cobblestone. It spawns both on the surface and underground, and appears as a blue pixel when spotted on the surface.
Fir, Redwood, and Cedar trees are the main wood types in this region. There are also Ice trees and Spiral trees, but those can only be found inside underground caves. Ice blocks spawn frequently in this region, and walking on top of them makes you slide away. This is not really an issue for the most part, but it can take you by surprise on occasion.

Devastated Lands (Zone 4)
The Devastated Lands are volcanic islands that occupy an area within an ocean, always separated from other zones by an ocean. Lava seeps out from these islands, turning the ocean red. They are filled with high-level enemies like Firesteel Golems, Magma Rhino Toads, and Burnt Skeleton Soldiers. Worse, lava pools and spouts are scattered all over the place, turning the very ground into a deathtrap should you be careless.
Resource-wise, the Devastated Lands is where you can find Adamantite, with plentiful reserves of the red ore found all over the surface. This is the next tier of upgrade after Cobalt, allowing players to make some of the most powerful weapons and armor in the game.
On the surface, you’ll find Fire trees and Burnt logs aplenty, as well as Sallow, Petrified, and Poison trees in some mini-biomes. Underneath the surface, some Devastated Lands are home to a unique underground Jungle biome filled with exotic trees like Banyan, Blue Fig, and Bamboo. The underground jungle is also the only area where you can find dinosaurs in Hytale.

The seas in Hytale do not fall under any of the major zones in the game, but are a unique biome all on their own called the Crystalline Depths. Undersea caves, buried treasure, and more await those who venture into the deep.
