Emotions for fans of The Beginning After The End have been high since the anime adaptation started airing at the beginning of April. Despite having a dearly loved manhwa/web comic adaptation, many fans were disappointed by the lack of high-quality animation on display in the anime.

Recently, fan fury resulted in a petition reaching over 50,000 signatures demanding the cancellation and redo of the current anime offering. However, since then, fan attitudes seem to have cooled off a bit as some decided to settle in for this new normal that seems unlikely to change for fans of The Beginning After The End.

Recently, there seems to be a glut of anime adaptations for beloved webcomics and manhwa series. In discussions online, this has pitted die-hard fans against each other. Each fanbase hopes to one-up the other by bragging about the superiority of their adaptation, hoping to settle discussions of quality once and for all.

Unfortunately for fans of TBATE, they have been enduring mockery for the lack of polish that their series has received so far. While The Beginning After The End anime’s animation has some bad moments, it is overall very serviceable and doesn’t detract too much from the experience. However, just being passable is not enough for many fans who feel like the quality of the storytelling deserves better.

“The anime is so sad. I’ve been following and reading TBATE for years. Got really excited when it was announced for an anime adaptation but now, I can’t even express how disappointed I was.”-Reddit user Only-Peanut3382 commenting on the series' animation.

After weekly episodes drop, TBATE watchers hold on to hope to see a change in direction or a fight scene that can satisfy their expectations. However, this hope inevitably turns to disappointment for some, who go to social media and forums to express themselves. Some fans take the opportunity to recommend reading the manhwa instead, which some jokingly say has more frames than the anime itself.

“Conclusion: Read the manhwa.”- Reddit user Sudden-Refuse-7915

“For TBATE we don't measure fps (frames per second), but spf (seconds per frame), it's scary.”- Reddit user DucktorLarsen

While some fans appear to still be fuming at the first impression this leaves new anime watchers of the TBATE story, others feel like they can find a way to take what they can get, pointing out how the series does feel like it's improving.

“From 1-4 its alot better. At this point im just going to enjoy it for what it is.” -Reddit User Puzzleheadedball3340 lamenting the state of the TBATE anime.

As the anime adaptation is set to run for 24 episodes, fans will have plenty of time to come to grips with it. While the animation ruins the experience for some, the narrative and characters are still adapted well enough to tell a good story. As more episodes are released, we may see the current fiery opinions of many fans mellow when faced with no other choice.

TBATE fans hope for their favorite series to get the best animation possible because they want to see something they like become popular and beloved by a wider audience. In some fans' view, the subpar animation closes the door on the series becoming a phenomenon like other anime adaptations such as Solo Leveling or Demon Slayer.

However, not every series has to be a colossal hit that attracts millions of fans. Some fans enjoy the show for what it is, to see their favorite characters and story beats showcased on a bigger stage. By that metric, it seems to be at least having some success. Popularity numbers in the West have been mixed, but the series has reportedly been rated highly on streaming platforms in Japan.

At the end of the day, an entertainment medium like anime is all about finding enjoyment. It’s only natural that those interested will stick around while those who don’t like it will move on to other things.

The Beginning After the End can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
