The Fieldwork missions in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are optional side quests in which Indy can help people in need, like helping a professor and his young apprentice in Vatican City.
The Savage Discovery Fieldwork mission tasks Indiana Jones with rescuing a young archaeology student named Sidney, who has been wrongly arrested by the Blackshirts on patrol in Vatican City. You can come upon the quest by chance via the discovery of a theft report, or follow the next steps to get the Savage Discovery quest underway.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: Lost in the Past Quest Guide
Lost in the Past is one of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle's more challenging quests. For those struggling, here's how to complete it.
Grab The First Field Report
After Indiana gets a clerical disguise from Father Antonio, you can leave the Apostolic Library and grab the Theft Report from the military tent on the left, next to the propaganda poster of Mussolini. You shouldn't have any trouble walking through, but avoid the higher-ranked officers as they will notice something is off about Indy and don't take money or valuables with soldiers watching. The Theft Report is on a chair to the left as soon as you walk into the tent. The report accuses Sidney of stealing artifacts from the dig site in the Vatican and begins the Savage Discovery Fieldwork quest. Make sure you set it as your active mission by selecting Track in the Journal.
Meet Professor Savage & The Fool Card
The next item Indiana needs to continue the mission is a tarot card depicting the Fool Major Arcana. Open the map and follow the yellow marker until you reach the Belvadere Courtyard, and follow the marker through the alleyway with the double doors and take a left toward the Vatican Garden. Continue down this pathway until you see the professor. Speak to him about Sidney trying to recover the Stone Tablet confiscated by the Blackshirts at the dig. Indiana Jones will agree to help Sidney and retrieve the Roman tablet. After the conversation, approach the barrel opposite the professor and grab the Fool Card.
If you feel lost after straying from the path, check your journal to note the mission you want to track and refer to your map, and follow the yellow indicator.
Rescue Sidney And Obtain Sidney's Letter
Reopen Indiana Jones' map and follow the marker to the barracks in the Northwest of the city. Avoid the Blackshirt officer and climb the scaffolding to zipline into the barracks. Follow the yellow indicator inside the barracks and use stealth where you can. Grab one of the guard's batons and use it to stealth attack or fight your way through. Eventually, you'll meet a heavy guard in the room with the cell key. He's stronger than the regular blackshirts, so use counters and a weapon. Grab the key and free Sidney from his cell behind the door in the same room. Sidney will explain that a man named Giuseppe is holding the stone tablet at the excavation site. When Sidney departs, grab Sidney's Letter next to the bed. Leave the barracks and head to the Apostolic Palace.
Indiana Jones And The Great Circle: 10 Beginner Tips
Those struggling to get the hang of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle are likely to appreciate these helpful beginner tips.
Entering The Excavation Site
Infiltrate The Apostolic Palace
Follow the map past the area where Indiana Jones met Professor Savage, but avoid approaching the front door to the palace in the next courtyard, as the Blackshirts will prevent Indy from entering. Instead, take a right up the stairs before the guarded entrance and navigate through the building site. Next, climb the ladder and use Indy’s whip on the chandelier to swing across to the other side of the scaffolding. Don’t worry; the workers won’t question why a Vatican cleric is swinging from the chandelier with a bullwhip.
Walk to the end of the platforms and keep climbing until Indy reaches a window balcony. Climb over the gap in the roof and make your way through the open window gap across the scaffolding to enter the palace.
Inside The Palace
When you're inside the palace through the window gap and then walk through the door into the next corridor, either avoid or take out the Blackshirts. There's an exit through the window in the left corridor, or you can explore and grab any collectibles from the palace. It's faster to fight and knock out all the enemies with batons and any makeshift weapons lying around. Multiple exits lead outside, so use the map to follow the yellow indicator to the excavation site.
The Excavation Site
Find Guiseppe & Obtain The Cellar Key
Once outside in the excavation site, sneak around to the wooden shack to obtain the last Field Note from the desk. It's a Dig Site Schedule with Giuseppe's location. He's in a dig area marked F. So, jump down to ground level and look for a small cave-like area marked F. When you enter, Giuseppe is busy digging, you can either knock him out and grab the key or initiate some dialogue, which results in a fist fight. Knock him out and take the cellar key from his body, unlock the gated door, and leave the excavation area.
Return The Stone Fragment
Find The Address
Once you leave the excavation site, follow the path and walk through the gates along the wall until you find a zipline. Use it to land behind the truck and avoid being noticed by the fascist officer. Follow the map until you pass the guards near the barricade and walk down the alleyway to the right until you find a staircase leading to a cellar. Use the cellar door key obtained from Giuseppe and walk inside. The Stone Fragment is sitting on some concrete blocks. This will trigger a cutscene that leads to Indy getting into a fist fight with a guard. Defeat him, loot his body for the safe code, and make your way back to Professor Savage to return the artifact.
Return To Professor Savage
Follow the map back to the library to find Sidney and Professor Savage reunited. Approach them and hand over the Stone Fragment to trigger a cutscene and complete the quest. Completing this quest will reward Indiana Jones with 300 Adventure Points and unlock the A Savage Discovery Trophy/Achievement.
