Summary

  • InZOI initially sold over 1 million copies, but player count has since dropped significantly.
  • Recent numbers show a decline in player count from 87,377 on release to 3,751 on April 24.
  • Despite the drop, declining player count may not be a cause for concern as updates could attract more players.

Krafton's new life simulator, InZOI, has continued to fall in its average player count, despite a successful launch almost a month ago. Recent numbers make for grim reading for InZOI, although it doesn't necessarily spell doom and gloom for the game.

Within a week of its release into Early Access, InZOI had sold over 1 million copies, making it an instant success for Krafton. As a game, it was clearly a work in progress, but its Early Access tag had never indicated anything different. While there was much to praise about InZOI, some gamers felt that the gameplay was a little shallow at this point in time, meaning it would struggle to be a true "Sims killer" right now. While the Early Access status has given the studio some leeway to expand on the gameplay in future updates, it hasn't necessarily translated to players sticking around for the time being.

InZOI’s NPCs appear to have a major issue that many fans feel is completely illogical, prompting widespread calls for the developer to release a fix.

As first reported by The Gamer, recent player numbers for InZOI continue to drop daily. From an average of 9,174 concurrent players on April 11, this has since fallen to 3,751 as of April 24. Even those InZOI player count numbers from over two weeks ago are way down from the game's peak on release, which was a massive 87,377. On the surface, they certainly don't look good for fans who want to see InZOI establish itself as a sustained success.

InZOI's Player Count Continues to Sink in Recent Weeks

There's certainly a strong argument to be made that InZOI's declining player count is not cause for concern, though. Initial interest in the game will always be much higher at release, and in InZOI's case, that release happened to be in Early Access. There's a lot that can be added to InZOI over the coming months and years, and if Krafton can continue to expand on the gameplay, it's likely that the game will experience significant player count increases with future updates. This will naturally come in waves, with interest coming and going as these updates are released.

The task has ultimately changed for Krafton in recent weeks. The developer already has strong sales for the game, and it's now up to the studio to win players back with fresh new content regularly. The more successful the updates, the more staying power InZOI will have in the long term. For now, InZOI's post-launch roadmap is promising to fix many of the game's biggest issues, with more features like pools and pets on the way.
