InZOI launched in early access back in March, and it quickly amassed a huge number of players. Within its first 24-hours, life sim title InZOI saw a peak of 87,000 players on Steam, demonstrating just how much interest is surrounding the project. However, InZOI has struggled to see those same numbers in the following months.

Since the initial launch, InZOI's player count has dropped significantly, and as the wait for its first major update continues, it may take a while for it to bounce back. The developers of InZOI recently revealed the game's post-launch roadmap, and while it promises plenty of exciting features, it also leaves the life sim in a similar boat to Palworld.

Palworld Has Struggled to Keep Consistent Player Numbers, and InZOI May Face the Same Challenge

It's important to note, that even though its player counts have dipped and skyrocketed, Palworld is still very much a success. Palworld's post-launch updates have been slow, but when they do arrive, the fresh content draws in plenty of players eager for new features. While long periods of time between content updates can be frustrating, it's also important to remember that strong updates take time. Palworld has faced a series of ups and downs, and as the year continues, InZOI is likely to find itself in the same cycle.

Palworld's all-time peak player count on Steam was a whopping 2.1 million.

InZOI's First Major Update Was Pushed Back

  • InZOI's mod support was supposed to arrive in late May.
  • The update is now expected to arrive in mid-June.

After InZOI's mod support was delayed, players have been eagerly awaiting one of the game's most promising features to get added to the game. Once mod support comes to InZOI, it could open the floodgates to a treasure trove of fresh content, as it will allow its players to really flex their creativity and push the limits of the game. With modding being such a beloved pastime for many gamers, InZOI is bound to see a significant uptick in players once the update launches.

However, as exciting as InZOI's mod support sounds, it may not be enough to keep players fully engaged. With the game being in early access, there is still plenty of content that has yet to be added, and players are bound to dip out and not return until fresh content is added, regardless of mod support.

Of course, introducing mod support within the first update is a smart move, because it still gives players some kind of incentive to continue playing. However, not every player is a fan of mods or is a modder, and those individuals may not have much to gain from such an update. InZOI needs a variety of improvements before it finishes its early access period, and this creates a cycle of highs and lows that Palworld is quite familiar with.

In addition to mod support, InZOI's first big update aims to improve the emotions of its Zois.

InZOI Still Has the Potential to Shake Up the Life Sim Genre

Falling player numbers may look bad for InZOI on the surface, but that doesn't necessarily mean the game is doomed. It certainly hasn't meant that for Palworld. It just means that InZOI seems destined to go through a series of growing pains, like many other games that launch in early access. There are plenty of pros and cons to early access launches, and having to wait for fresh content is definitely a big downside. However, it also gives players the chance to voice feedback ahead of a full-blown release, and it will be interesting to see how that influences InZOI in the future.
