Summary

  • InZOI will include seasons in the base game, contrasting with The Sims which offers seasonal weather only through DLC.
  • Players will have to dress their characters appropriately for weather in InZOI to avoid detrimental effects like sickness or death.
  • InZOI's world will feature four seasons, with different regions having varying climates, catering to player preferences.

InZOI is getting seasons as part of the base game. It's a major contrast to InZOI competitor The Sims, which has only included seasons as part of its DLC releases, not the base game.

InZOI has impressed a lot of gamers with what they've seen so far. The game promises fans of life simulators a lot, with impressive lifelike graphics, an in-depth character creator, and an open world that users can play in and customize. Fans of The Sims have been curious to see if InZOI can truly compete, and now the game is announcing a new feature that sets it apart.

PUBG: Battlegrounds publisher Krafton lays out its 2025 strategy for management, IP acquisition, and first-party development.

While players have previously seen that InZOI would include some different weather conditions, InZOI creative director Hyungjun Kim has announced that actual seasons will be in the base game at launch. Rather than just a mix of weather effects, the game will include all four seasons, and the player's Zois will have to compensate for the seasonal weather conditions outside, just like real people do. Zois will need to wear weather-appropriate clothing for the season they're living through, or they will experience detrimental effects like getting sick or even dying. This applies to both hot and cold weather, as Zois will need to keep warm in the cold and cool in the heat, or suffer the consequences. Players will be able to choose a seasonally-appropriate wardrobe for their Zoi to switch into when the weather demands it.

InZOI Seasons and The Sims

Ever since The Sims 2, players have been able to let their Sims enjoy seasonal weather, but only if they buy DLC. Many in the playerbase have voiced their frustration over not only having to spend more money, but also because of the wait involved. Both The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 went three years before their Seasons DLC arrived, while The Sims 4 players waited for four years. While each new iteration of The Sims improves upon things like graphics and adds new gameplay elements, players can feel frustrated when a new Sims base game lacks seasons, pets, or other features until later DLC releases.

With that said, players who prefer to keep their Zoi in sunny climates can do that, too. The Dowon world in InZOI will feature four seasons with cold winters and hot summers, but Bliss Bay will be mostly warm year-round, akin to the weather in Southern California, which it's based on. However, since most gamers haven't experienced gameplay past InZOI's character creator demo, it remains to be seen whether InZOI can meet players' expectations, especially when compared to the juggernaut of life sims that is The Sims franchise. Barring further delays, fans will be able to answer that for themselves when InZOI's early access launches in March.
