Summary
- People rated Ironheart poorly on Rotten Tomatoes before its debut on Disney+, resulting in a 32% Popcornmeter rating.
- Marvel shows featuring people of color, like Ironheart, often face review bombing.
- Despite mixed reviews, Ironheart fans find the series entertaining, with enthusiasm for upcoming episodes.
The latest Marvel series Ironheart just premiered on Disney+, but several people gave it low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes before it became available.
Ironheart isn't a perfect series, but the fact that so many people could dislike it before even watching one episode would give anyone pause. The series takes place after the 2022 movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. However, it isn't the only Marvel project that is out this summer. The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be out on July 25th, 2025, followed by the animated series Eyes of Wakanda. The fall and winter will be a busy one, too, with the four-part show Marvel Zombies and the series Wonder Man arriving on Disney+ in October and December 2025.

Marvel's Ironheart Was Review Bombed Before Its June 24th, 2025 Release
Ironheart episodes 1 through 3 premiered on Disney+ on June 24th, 2025, but, according to a post on Reddit, people gave the series low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes before it was even released. This resulted in a 32% rating on the Popcornmeter. While fans noted that those low ratings had been taken off the website, people noticed them there for a while. At the time of this writing, the series has a 69% Rotten Tomatoes score and 69% on the Popcornmeter, which shows that audiences and critics aren't as impressed by the series as they hoped to be.
As several noted in the Reddit post, Marvel shows that feature a person of color and, oftentimes, a woman of color in the lead role tend to get review bombed. Ironheart stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, or Ironheart, a student at MIT who makes a suit from armor that is like Iron Man's. The series also stars Manny Montana, Cree Summer, Eric André, Jim Rash, Lyric Ross, Anji White, and Matthew Elam. Thorne had a small role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and her story is expanded here.
While fans heard back in 2020 that Marvel would make an Ironheart TV series, it took several years to come to fruition, and there were rumors that reshoots would take place after the show finished filming. According to IGN, reshoots happened in February, March, and April 2024.
Marvel fans will recognize one particular character on Ironheart, and Chinaka Hodge, the head writer, told TV Line:
"One of the best things about the MCU is how things connect, but I think so many of the throws have been forward or to other MCUs or alternate universes, and it’s so much fun to reach back.”
Ironheart isn't the only Marvel TV series that hasn't impressed fans. Secret Invasion was a disappointment when it was released in 2023, and it only had one season. Many didn't love She-Hulk, either. Agatha All Along was a fairly big hit, which is why fans wonder if there will be another season, although it's probably not likely.
Although most reviews haven't been positive, some find the series entertaining, with one fan praising a cliffhanger in a Reddit thread and others calling it "amazing" and "significantly better than I thought it would be." Fans anticipated whether certain characters would appear in Ironheart, and they won't have to wait long to find out all the answers to their burning questions. There will be six episodes of Ironheart, and episodes 4 through 6 will be released on Disney+ on July 1st, 2025.
