While some characters are born extremely gifted and are destined to rise above others, some like the protagonist paved their way despite being among the lowest-ranking students to step foot in the school. These characters move the needle in battle, and with the constant duels that feature in this series, they create great moments that direct the narrative with their unique and mind-blowing abilities.
13 Kuroba Fumiya

Kuroba Fumiya, despite being a member of the Kuroba branch family, was a former candidate to succeed Maya at the helm of the Yotsuba family as well, which is a testament to his ability. His family specializes in intelligence and gathering information. As a result, his perception ability is off the charts, making him one of the best trackers in the entire series.
He defeated the first high school’s team in the Nine Schools Competition single-handedly, while extensively demonstrating his skill and power. He’s also capable of using ancient magic alongside several systematic magics that help increase his physical, offensive, and defensive abilities.
12 Shibata Katsuhige
Highly Proficient In Several Forms Of Magic

Shibata is a former candidate to succeed Maya as the head of the Yotsuba family. He can use a wide variety of ordinary magic at a high proficiency level, unlike most members of the Yotsuba family, who specialize in a few. This makes him one of the strongest combat magicians in the family.
His signature density manipulation magic allows him to manipulate the density of all three forms of matter, allowing him to create virtually anything and break through all solids, no matter how strong they might be. Most medical magicians cannot hold a candle to him, as he was also able to treat multiple people efficiently in a short period.

Igor’s importance to the Soviet Union cannot be overstated. He used to be a leading official at the Academy of Sciences but now focuses on his role as a revered strategic-class magician of the New Soviet Union. He holds significant political power and is one of the Thirteen Apostles, Strategic-Class Magicians who revealed their identity to the world for political reasons and are big factors in the power dynamics balance of the world.
His Tuman Bomba ability is one of pure destruction, as it can be likened to a nuclear bomb, but even more powerful, generating countless shockwaves that reduce everything in its path to dust.
10 Chiba Naotsugu
Best Close Range Combatant

Chiba Naotsugu is a student at the National Defense Academy who has already risen to the rank of second lieutenant. He is also a member of the Sword Corps, a platoon in the National Defense Forces’ First Division that is mainly used for guerrilla warfare.
He is touted as one of the best close-range fighters in the world and is known as the prodigy of the Chiba clan. He has mastered the Art of the Thousand Blades to augment his swordsmanship, and in combination with his speed, not many can square up to him.
9 Benjamin Canopus
First-Class Star Magician

Colonel Benjamin Canopus, mostly known as Ben, is a very powerful First-Class Star Magician who serves in the Star Magician Unit of the USNA as the second-in-command, and leader of the First Unit.
He is quite skilled in magic and brawling, so much so that he was able to take on multiple First-Class stars with parasites without the risk of injury, and he might have won the battle too had he not been forced to surrender to save the life of Shauna. His battle experience and ability to adapt to tough situations are also added boosts to his arsenal.
8 Kazama Harunobu
Strongest B-Ranked Magician

Kazama is the Lieutenant Colonel leading the 101st Brigade of the National Defense Force. Kazama is only a B-ranked magician, but his willpower and mastery of Ancient Magic, Ninjutsu, and Cloak of Invisibility are Swiss army knives he uses to overpower his opponents.
Kazama is well recognized as one of the best users of ancient magic, but due to his low affinity for magic, Yuuka was able to find a cloaked Kazama even though he was 100% focused on casting the spell and maintaining it.
7 Juumonji Katsuto
Head Of The Juumonji Family

Being the head of the Juumonji Family, it is not a surprise to see Katsuto here, as they are one of the Ten Master Clans. He is an alumnus of the First High School and one of the Big Three of the prestigious school.
Among the clan heads, Maya is the only one who can match up to him in terms of output, with Katsuto only falling behind when it comes to how easy it is for her in combat. He can also overclock his magic power at the cost of his lifespan.
6 Kudou Minoru
The Augmented Magician

Kudou Minoru is the Augmented Magician that was created when Kudou Makoto became hell-bent on producing a mighty heir to succeed him. He was created from the genetic material of Makoto and his youngest sister, but publicly, he is the son of Makoto’s wife.
Being an augmented magician means he has a specifically weak body as a result of gene manipulation and might not have a lot of years left in his lifespan. However, he has been acknowledged as one of the strongest magicians of his generation, and coupled with having one of the best brains in the show, Minoru is truly ahead of most of his peers.
5 Angelina Kudou Shields

Angelina, or Lina for short, is the Lieutenant Colonel in charge of the Stars Magician Unit of the USNA. Despite her youthful appearance, Lina is highly skilled in combat. She earned the prestigious title of Sirius, which is given to the most skilled combat magician in the USNA military. Remarkably, she achieved this at a young age by defeating the previous Sirius in combat.
Linia excels in her ability to quickly activate magic and seamlessly integrate it with her hand-to-hand combat skills, leaving her opponents bewildered and unable to react in time. Additionally, she has demonstrated a strong resistance to mental interference magic, and parasites.
4 Shiba Miyuki
Naturally Gifted

As the main female protagonist of the story, it is not a surprise to see Miyuki ranked so high. Miyuki received a lot of training as a child and, as such, is much more refined than the average person.
