Spoiler Warning For Summer 2025's Isekai Anime
No anime season is complete without a few overpowered isekai protagonists. Simply put, the genre/theme is synonymous with characters who can destroy armies, topple kingdoms, and defeat gods. Not every isekai MC is OP, but enough anime go down this route that stories that focus on a strategist, like the currently-airing Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra, are the exception rather than the rule. Summer 2025 does not have a huge number of isekai series, but nearly all of them have very strong leads.
While garnering their share of criticisms, these types of anime are, honestly, quite fun when you are in the mood for a power fantasy. They are predictable and, consequently, dependable. Also, while they might all feature powerhouses, these shows can still be quite different from each other, with some leaning into action while others prioritize comedy. So, let's see which of Summer 2025's OP isekai anime MCs is the strongest.
A few notes and criteria:
- Lord of Mysteries has been left out due to being a donghua rather than an anime. Also, Klein's abilities are so unique, it is difficult to compare them to characters from other universes. Just to be clear, Lord of Mysteries is fantastic and well worth a watch.
- A protagonist's strength will be viewed relative to their show's context. Therefore, they have to be OP compared to other characters from their universe.
- Only isekai, no reincarnation anime like I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability Season 2.
- At this point, each anime has released 9 or 10 episodes, which should be enough to get a clear picture of a character's strength. That said, there is always a chance that a protagonist might receive a massive power boost in the final few episodes.

Of course, there is an isekai anime about a guy who is reincarnated as a vending machine. Also, of course, the show is way better than it has any right to be. Currently in its second season, Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon is primarily a comedy adventure series with some action, so Boxxo (the eponymous machine) only sporadically gets to demonstrate his abilities.
Every New Isekai Anime Of 2025
Isekai anime is inescapable, with each season containing a couple of shows. Here are all the 2025 isekai anime series.
While he is a sentient box, this MC is nevertheless capable and versatile, as he can transform into different types of machines that range from ice cream distributors to massive buildings that can crush powerful enemies. Although he is somewhat limited by his energy/mana, Boxxo has an impressive range of defensive options, including a force field that he can use to protect himself and his party from fairly powerful attacks.
Now, Boxxo is dependent on other people, particularly Lammis, a strong girl who carries the vending machine on her back. He is very much part of a team rather than a solo force of nature, and the MC's greatest asset is his ability to stock up on food and drinks, allowing him to help and even save many starving allies.
4 Takeru (Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse)
An Isekai MC With A Strange Power

An original series, David Production's Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse is messy and frustrating. Besides its isekai aspect, the anime also has sentai-like transformation, mecha, kaiju, alternate worlds, multiple versions of the same characters, and too many other ideas that make for an overall chaotic story.
Ultimately, the focus of this article is just on Takeru, a delinquent protagonist who is ripped right out of a 2000s shonen manga. He speaks in generic slogans and is mostly driven by a desire to protect Tsukimiya, who is literally the girl of his dreams. One seemingly random day, Takeru wakes up in Denji Heian-kyou, a city that combines the future and the past. Before long, he gets involved in a fight pitting a strange mech against a monster, and he ends up dying. He then reawakens at the same starting point as before, appearing to suggest he is stuck in a time loop.
So, Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse's big twist is that Takeru's ability causes him to revive in an alternate world, rather than resetting time. He is going through multiple universes, each one doomed to death as he has proven incapable of saving them. Takeru's powers are all over the place, and he just kind of randomly acquires the ability to transform into a sentai. He is admittedly quite strong and can stand his ground in battles against most enemies, but he rarely gets the upper hand and has even lost a few fights.

Ah, The Rising of the Shield Hero, one of the most polarizing isekai anime of all time. Although not receiving as much attention as its predecessors, season 4 has been decent for the most part, with Naofumi and company finding themselves visiting Siltvelt, a city that worships the Shield Hero. At this point, the MC's strengths and weaknesses are well-established, and he does not need to showcase his abilities every week. In fact, he barely raised his shield during the first half of season 4, mostly opting to accept a background role to allow characters like Fohl to shine.
Defensively, Naofumi is undeniably overpowered, as he can tank direct blows from boss-level creatures without too much issue. However, he is not a great offensive fighter, and he relies on other characters like Raphtalia and Sadeena to handle that side of things. In fact, Raphtalia is actually a higher level than Naofumi, although the latter has more powerful abilities due to being classified as a legendary hero.
2 Ryou (The Water Magician)

After a premature end, Ryou goes to the afterlife and meets an angel, who grants him a fresh start and Water Magic. OK, that does not sound too impressive on paper, but it does not take long for Ryou to demonstrate that his power dwarfs nearly any other magician in this universe. Beyond having a very high base level, the protagonist also spends years training alone in the forest, a process that sees him greatly expand his mana reserves and fine-tune his magic, reaching a point where he can cast spells without needing an incantation. The latter is unheard of in his new world.
Best Isekai Anime With Overpowered Main Characters
Overpowered protagonists are a fixture of isekai anime, and the best series showcase why this concept is so common.
Ryou can use a ridiculous number of spells, both defensive and offensive. Yes, they are limited to water/ice magic, but he still shows off quite a bit of versatility. Crucially, he is a scholar who wants to continuously learn, and he specifically seeks out books that could teach him more about this world and its power systems. Despite being quite laid-back and uninterested in combat scenarios for the most part, Ryou is a fairly capable weapons fighter, especially since he has access to the Fairy King's Robes and Sword. He effortlessly destroys a Demon Prince who previously overwhelmed one of the strongest human heroes in this universe, and Ryou even holds his own against Leonore, an extremely powerful Akuma.

Yoshioka Shigeru is Summer 2025's most OP isekai anime MC, and it is not even close. After his life completely unraveled, Yoshioka found himself staring at an invention to transfer to a new world, and he could arrange his stats. Fueled by self-hatred and anger, he decides to trade his looks for power, so he ends up reincarnating as, well, an "Uglymug" with the power of a deity. Just to be clear, that is not my description of his strength, as the anime specifically classifies Yoshioka as an "Almighty God."
While he initially has to defeat one goblin to level up and acquire his bonus points, he then improves each stat by a factor of a trillion, making him pretty much unstoppable. He also has access to some absolutely nuclear skills, including a special move that destroys everything within a 200km radius. Even simply firing an arrow results in the summoning of a dragon. To be fair, Yoshioka has a fair few vulnerabilities that he applied to himself, like the fact that he cannot touch a woman without feeling pain; however, these weaknesses are situational and can be avoided relatively easily.
Uglymug, Epicfighter has introduced another character who is classified as an Almighty God, so Yoshioka has an equal. He also needs to keep his OP nature a secret from most of his party, so he cannot just go all-out whenever he wants.
Best Anime With Overpowered Main Characters, Ranked
Super powerful protagonists capable of anything might feel redundant in an anime plot, but these series are fun to watch despite an OP MC.
