Will A Minecraft Movie Be Better or Pointless if You’ve Never Played the Game?

I’m a young adult who has somehow never played Minecraft. I feel practically compelled to see the movie partially for the comedic bit and partially just to see if it confounds me or somehow works due to me not knowing the game.

Black will be doing more than just acting in A Minecraft Movie. He revealed to Variety that he will also perform an original song featuring Foo Fighters and Nirvana star Dave Grohl on drums. He co-wrote the song known as "I Feel Alive" with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, which will wrap up the movie.

He said, "I'm very excited about that one. Cale [Boyter], our producer, was like, 'We need a big song at the end, something that wraps up the whole movie.' And I was like, 'I can't write a song that wraps up the whole movie.' I said, 'Maybe if you could get those guys that wrote "I'm Just Ken," they could do it. And he said, 'Done!' And made it happen." Black continued, "I was like, 'Are you kidding me?' And we started jamming and working together, and I was like, 'Oh my God, this is heaven.'"

Black is known for his musical ability, so having him sing in A Minecraft Movie will be no real surprise to people. The popular actor is a gifted singer who is in his own band, Tenacious D. Those musical talents have been carried into his acting career, too, as he's sung in various films. He provided the voice for Bowser's "Peaches" song, which took the world by storm following the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Of course, Black also sang countless songs in the cult classic A School of Rock, where he was able to blend both of his worlds together.

Featuring someone as talented as Grohl is only going to add further legitimacy to the song, and given the success that all the contributors have had over the years, there is a good chance that A Minecraft Movie could end up having an unexpected hit on its hands. A viral song can significantly impact a movie's success, as audiences end up hearing it constantly and want to know even more details, where possible. If this song is able to catch on and trend, then it would only provide more excitement than already exists within the Minecraft community about the movie in the first place, which should stand it in good stead.

Video game adaptations are on the rise at the moment and have proven to be growing in popularity and quality. The likes of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, Fallout, and The Last of Us have all proven that taking iconic video games into a movie or television format can work, which wasn't the case for the longest time. Considering the popularity of Minecraft as a video game franchise, there will be a level of expectation among fans to match this and make an entertaining movie that captures the wild and creative world of the game itself. Adding a song from Black, who is well-known for his charismatic performances, feels like it's perfectly aligned with what A Minecraft Movie should be, especially given the team behind it.
