James Gunn's Superman is due in two months. However, before its release, the director shared a hilarious but adorable reaction from one family member while watching the trailer.
Superman, starring David Corenswet, is the first movie from the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) after Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios. The upcoming film also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White. Milly Alcock will make her debut as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, in the film. Aside from the aforementioned, Gunn brings another adorable character in the movie inspired by a family member, who had a hilarious reaction after seeing it onscreen.
‘That Would Be Fun’ Superman Star David Corenswet Wants To Do This Animated Series Plot In Live Action
Superman star David Corenswet shared the other DC superhero he wanted to portray.
The Superman director shared a video on X, formerly Twitter. The short clip features his pet dog, Ozu, watching the Superman trailer, where Krypto can be seen running to rescue Superman. While Ozu watches Krypto on the vast screen, he barks and jumps as if he sees a threat. Gunn can be heard in the background introducing Ozu and his relevance to the film, particularly to Krypto. The filmmaker explained that Krypto the Superdog was actually modeled after Ozu's body. They 3D captured and turned him white and the result was Krypto. However, Ozu was seemingly not impressed because, according to Gunn:
Anyway, every time he sees himself come on screen, he tries to murder himself.
In April, the Guardians of the Galaxy director opened up more about Ozu at the CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas. Gunn said he got Ozu, a rescue dog, after he lost his beloved pet, Wesley. When he visited a rescue organization, there were about 60 canines, but Ozu caught his attention because he "kind of looked like my old dog on crack," he said (via People). Ozu, who was only a year old at the time, was reportedly thin and had messy hair when Gunn first saw him. Also, one of his ears reportedly stuck up. Gunn found Krypto "funny" and since he liked hilarious things, he decided to take him home. However, it was reportedly not easy to live with Ozu, whom Gunn described as "the worst dog you could possibly imagine." Ozu reportedly wreaked havoc in his home; even his $8,000 laptop didn't escape the canine. It came to a point when Gunn had to get himself up on his kitchen counter and sit cross-legged to get away from the dog because Ozu would bite his feet and he didn't want to scream, especially when he was on the phone. Then he would see Ozu jumping to reach his feet, which made him think, "What if this dog had superpowers?" From that line of thought, Krypto the Superdog was born. So, yeah, thanks to the restless Ozu.
Krypto stole Superman's thunder when the sneak peek was released last month. Many, especially dog owners, were moved when they saw him repeatedly jump at Superman, seemingly unaware that the latter was in his worst shape. He appeared excited that they were reunited and was all over the place. According to them, Krypto's scene is relatable because their dogs react similarly when seeing them. In the teaser, Krypto eventually took Superman to a place where automatons wait for them to heal the latter. The robot said Superman suffered from 14 fractured bones and damage to the bladder, kidney, large intestines, and lungs. Some jokingly blamed Krypto for the 13 fractured bones because he repeatedly jumped at Superman. There's no doubt that Krypto will be among the things fans will look forward to seeing in Superman because he is such a charmer, just like Ozu, who won Gunn's heart.
