James Gunn hasn't given a concrete update about their take on Wonder Woman after Gal Gadot. However, he responded to one of the inquiries about the superhero on social media.

Wonder Woman is the most popular female superhero from DC Comics. She is part of DC Comics' "Trinity" along with Superman and Batman. DC fans were pleased with Gal Gadot's portrayal of Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman and they wanted to see more of her playing the Amazon Warrior. Unfortunately, Gadot's Wonder Woman 3 was canceled after Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios in November 2022. Since then, fans have been wondering what will happen to Wonder Woman since they haven't heard a definite update about a live-action reboot following Gadot's departure from the franchise. However, lately, Wonder Woman has been on the radar with Gunn sharing an "encouraging" update about the franchise.

DCU’s Wonder Woman Reboot Gets An Official Update

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and president David Zaslav shared an update about James Gunn’s Wonder Woman reboot.

Gunn, who directed Superman, promoted the movie on Twitter. He shared the trailer and encouraged fans to watch it in Theaters and IMAX on July 11. In the comment section, someone asked the filmmaker if he had any updates on Wonder Woman. Gunn gave a direct response. It was not much, but he confirmed that they were making progress and it was "encouraging." However, they were just not ready to share it with the public. Here's Gunn's short but meaningful response:

Not to be shared publicly yet, but yes. Encouraging.

Following Gunn's response, fans flooded the thread with questions and suggestions. One suggested that Joss Whedon would be the perfect writer and director for the next Wonder Woman project. Another asked who would play the coveted role. A different user responded that it was probably the key detail Gunn would never share publicly at the time. Days before Gunn's promising update about Wonder Woman, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and president David Zaslav also gave an official update about the franchise. Zaslav spoke about the upcoming DCU projects at Warner Bros.' (WB) Q1 2025 earnings call. According to him, Gunn and Safran had a 10-year plan around DC and they would focus on the bankable superheroes from DC Comics, which included Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Supergirl. David Corenswet's Superman is the first movie in the rebooted DC Universe. Milly Alcock's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released next year and she will make her debut in Superman. However, there's no concrete detail about Batman and Wonder Woman.

Although Gunn didn't share too much, his update was enough to stir excitement among Wonder Woman fans. It was a confirmation that they have huge plans for the character but are not ready to share the details yet. DC fans will be looking forward to the announcement of the casting of the titular character now that Gunn has confirmed Wonder Woman is on their radar. Moon Knight star May Calamawy said she was ready to play the lead if Gunn would want her to take the role. Meanwhile, fans suggest that Eiza González or Adria Arjona would be great as the next Wonder Woman. On the other hand, some were convinced that The Outpost star Jessica Green would be perfect because she's beautiful, tall, and fit. Currently, fans can only speculate until Gunn officially announces the new Wonder Woman after Gadot. One thing is certain: Gunn will not hold an open casting call because it attracts thousands of auditions, making it difficult for them to filter the best ones. However, the Guardians of the Galaxy director is confident in their casting strategy because, according to Gunn, they only hired the best.
