Wordle is a very short daily game that pits players against a mystery five-letter word. In order to play, word puzzle fans just need to head to either the New York Times Games Wordle site or the New York Times Crossword App. Once in one of these places, then players can start by choosing a starting word.

Starting words in Wordle are very important. They should follow all the rules of all Wordle answers as well as a couple of other rules to help get to the answer of the day as likely as possible.

All Wordle answers are five letters long and a real word.
Answers cannot be proper nouns.
Players must avoid all the offensive words removed from the Wordle pool by the New York Times.
Good starting words should contain five different common letters.
While they can be used as guesses, answers won't be repeats of previous puzzles and won't be plural nouns ending in S or ES.

Once a good starting word is chosen, type it into the app or site and press enter. The letters of the word will change colors.

Green letters are right.
Gray letters are wrong.
Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word.

Given these clues, keep trying new words and getting new color hints. Players have six total guesses to get to the answer before they lose.
