Despite starring in the upcoming A Minecraft Movie, Jason Momoa has revealed that he does not let his children play video games. While it might seem unusual for someone acting in a movie about Minecraft to keep their kids from playing games, the actor has given his reasoning behind the decision.

Launching on April 4, A Minecraft Movie is right around the corner. The film looks to put a unique twist on the iconic blocky world of the game by blending CGI and live-action elements. Specifically, A Minecraft Movie features some well-known actors, including Jack Black and Jason Momoa. While Black has received lots of attention for his portrayal of the iconic Steve, many fans have highlighted Momoa’s character, Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison as well.

A Minecraft Movie is set to feature a song written by Jack Black and featuring a legend in the music industry.

As a result of his notable role in A Minecraft Movie, Momoa has been giving various interviews about the film. One of these was with Deadline, where he gave an interesting answer regarding whether his children play video games. “We don’t have a TV. My son doesn’t even have a phone,” Momoa revealed. While the actor revealed he will let his son have a phone and "explore the world" when he turns 18, he stood behind his parenting decisions. According to Momoa, he wants his kids to "use their creativity in a different way" and pointed to his own upbringing, saying how his generation survived without them.

Jason Momoa Talks About Not Letting His Kids Play Video Games or Have Phones

Some fans have found these comments from Momoa intriguing, considering he is starring in a video game adaptation. In addition, they contrast with his co-star Jack Black, who has often shown his love for gaming. Black has starred in multiple video game films in the past, including providing the voice of Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Claptrap in Borderlands.

Time will tell what the reception to Momoa’s role in A Minecraft Movie will be. While the film will likely be successful at the box office, it remains to be seen if it can satisfy many Minecraft fans who will inevitably watch it. Video game movies have been a mixed bag of late. While Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was an example of a recent success, Borderlands turned out to be a box office flop.

Along with A Minecraft Movie releasing in cinemas, an in-game Minecraft event to help celebrate the film has been added. By playing mini-games, fans can complete challenges to unlock the Yearn cape inspired by the movie. Bedrock players can participate in the event until April 7. Meanwhile, A Minecraft Movie DLC is available, adding Momoa and his co-stars' characters to the game.
