The new year is already off to a strong gaming start, and February looks to be an even more jam-packed month for gamers. In addition to highly-anticipated horror releases like Resident Evil Requiem and Reanimal, JRPG fans are also being treated quite well in the coming month with 4 substantial games releasing. Although none of the JRPGs releasing in February 2026 are entirely brand-new experiences, titles like Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, Ys X: Proud Nordics, and Tales of Berseria Remastered all offer plenty of welcome content that should have fans of the genre champing at the bit.
Despite largely being a crop of remakes, remasters, and ports, the February 2026 line-up of JRPGs delves into some iconic franchises and brings back a swath of new content for both newcomers and veterans to enjoy. In certain cases, this release will be the first time some gamers will have access to the game entirely, like with Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, which has only been available on Nintendo consoles and PC up to this point. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined kicks off a month of JRPG releases, but it's not the only reason genre fans have to be excited.
The Best Plot Twist in JRPG History Has Yet to Be Topped 16 Years Later (And It’s Not from Final Fantasy or Persona)
JRPGs like Persona and Final Fantasy have some of the most emotional stories in gaming, and one 16-year-old game sets the bar high in this regard.
JRPGs Releasing in February 2026
- Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, PC) – February 5
- Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma (XSX/S, PS5) – February 13
- Ys X: Proud Nordics (PC, Switch 2, PS5) – February 20
- Tales of Berseria Remastered (PS5, PC, Switch, XSX/S) – February 27
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Examines a JRPG Classic from a New Perspective
The Dragon Quest series has seen quite a few remakes over the past few years, with the original trilogy receiving HD-2D remakes in the forms of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake in 2024 and Dragon Quest 1 + 2 HD-2D Remake in 2025. Now, Dragon Quest 7 is in line for a complete makeover with Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined. However, unlike these other titles, Dragon Quest 7 will not be remade in the HD-2D art style and will instead adopt a full 3D diorama art style with HD textures and lighting.
Originally released on the PlayStation 1, Dragon Quest 7 could have been a candidate for an HD-2D remake with its original pixel art style, but it already received one remake on the 3DS in 2013 that brought the game into 3D. Building off of that version, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined retains much of the same gameplay and story, but features new gameplay elements like the Vocational Perks system and Moonlight mechanic that allows characters to have two vocations at once.
The 3DS version of Dragon Quest 7 can no longer be purchased from the eShop since it has been shut down, making Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined a far more accessible option for players.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Breaks Free from Nintendo Console Exclusivity
Although Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma has technically been available since June 2025, it has been a Nintendo console exclusive and was even a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title. However, this console exclusivity ends in February 2026 when Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma makes its way to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, giving these gamers access to the game for the first time. The game also released a PC version at launch, so it was never truly exclusive to Nintendo.
The Rune Factory series isn't a traditional JRPG, though it does include familiar action JRPG combat mechanics. Instead, it combines these combat features with the farming and life-sim mechanics of games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon to create a blend of cozy gameplay broken up by instances of combat against corrupted monsters trying to attack the village players are working hard to rebuild. So far, there has been no word on whether Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma will be coming to Game Pass when it launches, but even having it available for purchase on Xbox is a win for the console's growing JRPG library.

It's Been 30 Years And We Still Never Got A Sequel To The Best And Most Unlikely JRPG Team-Up Of All Time
There have been tons of great JRPGs over the years, but this beloved gem from 1996 is 30 years overdue the sequel it desperately deserves.
Ys X: Proud Nordics is the Definitive Way to Experience Nihon Falcom's JRPG Epic
Another instance of a game that has already been released but is back with new content for an enhanced experience is Ys X: Proud Nordics. Ys X: Nordics was originally released back in 2024, and players can access this original version on PS4, PS5, PC, and Switch. Now, Ys X: Proud Nordics takes the experience of the base game and dials it up a notch to create the definitive experience for fans of the franchise.
The main claim to fame of Ys X: Proud Nordics is the brand-new storyline woven into the original game's narrative. Players can now travel to Oland Island to experience a parallel storyline that features new characters, Canute and Astrid. Along with this new story content, Proud Nordics also comes with substantial graphical improvements, including a 120FPS mode for the Switch 2, and all the DLC from the original release.
The one drawback of Ys X: Proud Nordics is that it doesn't offer an upgrade path for players who own the original version, meaning they will have to pay full price to access Proud Nordics' new content.

Tales of Berseria Remastered Gives a Fan-Favorite a New Coat of Paint
The month of February caps off its JRPG releases with a remaster of the Tales series fan-favorite entry, Tales of Berseria Remastered. Bandai Namco's long-running JRPG franchise has been given new life with numerous remasters over the past few years as part of the series' 30th anniversary remaster project. So far, the games that have received remasters include Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Graces f, and Tales of Xillia.
Originally released in 2016, Tales of Berseria still holds up pretty well today. However, this remaster aims to improve the game's quality-of-life features, such as 20% faster character movement speed, simplified item acquisition, helpful indicators on the mini-map, and more. In addition to addressing these quality-of-life concerns, Tales of Berseria Remastered will also include all the original release's DLC.
