It’s a great time to be a book nerd, with printed stories experiencing a kind of boom thanks to the prevalence of self-publishing and a growing trend of unplugging for parts of the day or week. For gamers, a new Catan novel is perfectly suited for a fall or winter read, while anime fans are receiving box sets for Delicious in Dungeon and Sailor Moon just in time for the holidays.

20 of the Best Book Series to Get Your Gamer Kid Reading in 2024

These books will get gamers reading around the clock, no matter what grade they're in!

Although there have been a handful of Lord of the Rings video games in recent years, with more supposedly in the works, the book series is almost intrinsically tied with the gaming world, as millions of people cite Lord of the Rings as their first foray into fantasy. Now, those readers can celebrate a brand-new collection of J.R.R. Tolkien’s writing, one that includes previously un-published material.

The Collected Poems of J.R.R. Tolkien is spread across three hardcover volumes with a total of 1,728 pages of content. These volumes contain some of Tolkien’s earliest work, some of the poems having been written during his teens. Plus, for the first time, fans can read over 60 poems that have never been formally published. The three volumes offer roughly 200 poems altogether, providing plenty of food for thought for Tolkien fans.

The set itself looks beautiful, featuring a minimalist, cream-white and light blue color scheme. Each side of the durable slip case and each of the hardcover volumes feature beautiful illustrations that Tolkien did himself. Obviously meant to be a statement piece, there aren’t as many details on this set as there are with other recent special editions of The Lord of the Rings and other Tolkien tales, but this may be one of the classiest, and rarest J.R.R. Tolkien sets ever published.

The poems in this collection span Tolkien’s entire career, so while there are tons of poetry from The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, and other Middle-Earth stories, there are a wider variety of themes here than you might expect.

The Collected Poems of J.R.R. Tolkien presents almost 200 works across three volumes, including more than 60 that have never before been seen. The poems are deftly woven together with commentary and notes by world-renowned Tolkien scholars Christina Scull & Wayne G. Hammond, placing them in the context of Tolkien’s life and literary accomplishments and creating a poetical biography that is a unique and revealing celebration of J.R.R. Tolkien.
