Jujutsu Kaisen has become a global phenomenon over the last few years. Right from the get-go, Jujutsu Kaisen was a very popular story, but it only went on to reach its peak once it received its heavily acclaimed anime adaptation by Studio MAPPA. At the moment, Jujutsu Kaisen, has two anime seasons, and even a couple of movies. In a week, Jujutsu Kaisen will receive its third season as well, and it is quite clear that the franchise will only continue to grow from here on out.

Right now, Jujutsu Kaisen’s success can’t be understated. Recently, it was revealed that Jujutsu Kaisen officially beat one of the Big Three, and that is Bleach. Jujutsu Kaisen’s sales have surpassed the 150 million mark, while Bleach remains at 130 million at the moment. At the moment, JJK is on the rise and it'll most definitely go on to reach even higher numbers.

Jujutsu Kaisen Surpasses Bleach In Manga Sales

  • Jujutsu Kaisen Is At 150 Million Sales
  • Bleach Is At 130 Million Sales

The Big Three is a name given by fans to the three most popular shonen series of the 2000s. These series are One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach. Each one of these series is very popular and has its own very dedicated fanbase.

The dominance of the big three cannot be understated, and almost all fans hold them on a pedestal when it comes to Shonen manga. That is precisely why it is a surprise for fans to see one of these series beat out by a new manga. Jujutsu Kaisen, a manga from 2018, has finally surpassed one of the big three, Bleach.

Since its beginning, Bleach has accumulated around 130 million sales. Since its ending, this number hasn’t moved much, even after it received a new anime adaptation, the Thousand-Year Blood War anime. Meanwhile, Jujutsu Kaisen is now at over 150 million copies sold, based on the newest estimates. Jujutsu Kaisen is selling incredibly well even after the end of the manga, and it’s still one of the best-selling manga at the moment.

What’s more impressive, however, is that Jujutsu Kaisen achieved these insane numbers with just 30 volumes. Meanwhile, Bleach’s 130 million was accumulated over 74 volumes. This means Jujutsu Kaisen has an average sale per volume of 5 million, while Bleach’s average per volume is 1.7 million. Jujutsu Kaisen has over double Bleach’s average sales per volume, so the gap is even clearer.

Jujutsu Kaisen Beat Bleach, But It’s Unlikely To Beat Naruto And One Piece

  • Naruto Is 100 Million Ahead of JJK
  • One Piece Is Over 400 Million Ahead

It’s true that Jujutsu Kaisen beat one of the big three, but at the end of the day, it beat the least popular one of the bunch. Out of the big three, it’s always been clear that Bleach is the weakest story. While Bleach has just 130 million sales over 74 volumes, the other two are doing far better.

Naruto has over 250 million sales over 72 volumes. Meanwhile, One Piece is the world’s best-selling manga ever, and no other series comes close to it as it slowly approaches the 600 million mark.

Jujutsu Kaisen could potentially surpass Naruto someday, but the 100 million gap is a lot to catch up to. The new Jujutsu Kaisen animated projects could perhaps make it happen, but it still will be close to impossible to achieve.

Jujutsu Kaisen, however, can never surpass One Piece. To surpass One Piece, it would need to more than double its current sales, which is impossible for a manga that has already ended.

Jujutsu Kaisen Was Heavily Inspired By Bleach

Jujutsu Kaisen Was Heavily Inspired By Bleach

While Jujutsu Kaisen beat Bleach, it’s important to remember that without Bleach, it might have just never existed. When asked about Gege Akutami’s biggest inspirations when creating JJK, he immediately cited Bleach. Fans can definitely see the similarities too. Gege, after all, was a huge fan of Bleach growing up.

The core premise of JJK takes from Ichigo’s story in Bleach, and of course, it doesn’t even stop there. Many character archetypes found in Jujutsu Kaisen were taken from Bleach. Jujutsu Kaisen’s most famous technique, Domain Expansion, was also directly inspired by Bleach as well. The Bankai was what gave birth to the Domain Expansion, and without it, Jujutsu Kaisen might never have been as popular.

Demon Slayer Is Still 50 Million Sales Ahead of Jujutsu Kaisen

Demon Slayer Is Still 50 Million Sales Ahead of Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen is definitely one of the most popular newer generation manga out there, but at the moment, it’s still not the number one. The number one biggest newer gen manga is none other than Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer has amassed over 220 million sales with a mere 23 manga volumes. Achieving such a big number with only a few volume is almost unheard of. This leaves Demon Slayer with an average of 10 million sales per volume — the highest of all time.

Fans also shouldn’t forget that while Jujutsu Kaisen will definitely get more backlog sales in the next few years thanks to new animated content, so will Demon Slayer.

Demon Slayer’s Infinity Castle trilogy still has two movies in store, Part 2 and Part 3. These two movies will likely allow Demon Slayer to stay ahead of Jujutsu Kaisen forever.

Of course, Jujutsu Kaisen still has a shot at beating Demon Slayer. In a few years, fans will be able to properly determine which manga will come out on top. But, for now, Demon Slayer has the edge.

Jujutsu Kaisen Is Over, But Its Sequel Called JJK Modulo Is Greatly Successful

As many fans know, Jujutsu Kaisen reached its conclusion in 2024. This was unfortunate, especially as the story was rushed due to the health concerns of Gege Akutami. However, in 2025, Jujutsu Kaisen returned with a sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

Modulo has been running for a couple of months now, and its first volume is releasing soon. Fans are definitely curious to see how this volume will sell, especially compared to the original Jujutsu Kaisen series.

So far, the signs are definitely positive. On Manga Plus, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter 1 was the most-read chapter of the year. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was also the biggest new manga series on the platform. It seems that despite the main story ending, JJK’s dominance is far from over.

Jujutsu Kaisen's sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, runs in the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. The series is set 68 years into the future, after the events of Shinjuku Showdown. The main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo are Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17 will be released on January 4, 2026. The release time of the chapter is midnight JST, or 11:00 AM ET (8:00 AM PT). Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
