There are plenty of reasons as to why Jujutsu Kaisen is regarded as one of the best Shōnen anime & manga of the moment. With one of them being its memorable cast of complex characters, from series protagonist Yuji Itadori, all the way to the mighty Satoru Gojo. And one of the most popular characters in the series is definitely Megumi Fushiguro.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Most Evil Characters In The Series, Ranked

These evil Jujutsu Kaisen characters have committed many unforgivable acts.

Ever since his introduction back in the first chapter, it has been evident that Megumi is a smart and cold person who has an enormous sense of responsibility. He almost always knows what he’s talking about, which has led to Megumi being responsible for some of the cleverest and most inspiring quotes in all of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Updated on September 11, 2024, by Julián Fernández Loyarte: It has been announced that the Jujutsu Kaisen manga is coming to an end in the next few weeks and, as a result, Megumi Fushiguro has finally returned to the story after an extremely long absence. In just a few new chapters, he has already said some interesting things that perfectly display his personality and motivations, which is especially emotional as the manga is slowly reaching its anticipated conclusion. So, three of those new recent quotes were added to the list. The Featured Image of this article has also been updated in order to reflect Megumi’s awaited return.

11 "But I Don’t Want To Let Him Die"

Showing His Softer Side

Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro, as seen in Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • Said In: Chapter 9 (Manga) Episode 5 (Anime)

Despite his “tough guy” façade, Megumi is actually a nice guy who knows how to read other people. That’s exactly why he said this to Satoru Gojo when discussing Itadori’s fate. He knew that, even if the prospect of awakening Sukuna was dangerous, he would try his hardest to let his new friend live at the same time.

This was an interesting quote, since all the audience knew about Megumi by that point was that he seemed like a cold and strong sorcerer. But this was their first glimpse of his real personality.

10 "It's Not About Whether I Can. I Have To Do It."

Aware Of His Responsibilities

Megumi Fushiguro fighting agains Ryomen Sukuna, who is possessing Yuji Itadori's body.
  • Said In: Chapter 9 (Manga) Episode 5 (Anime)

One of Megumi’s biggest challenges was to confront Sukuna after the antagonist swapped bodies with Itadori. This is what he said to the King of the Curses right before their battle, showing that even when facing danger, Megumi knows exactly what his responsibilities are.

There are many reasons as to why someone may become a Jujutsu sorcerer and, in Megumi’s case, he believes that he has to use his immense power in order to save people from evils as big as Sukuna himself. This is quite moving for a character that seemed so distant at first.

9 "If Only More Good People Could Receive Fairness. I’ll Save People Whether Or Not It’s Fair!"

Megumi’s Real Motivations

Megumi Fushiguro's showing off his immense Cursed Energy output.
  • Said In: Chapter 9 (Manga) Episode 5 (Anime)

Following his initial battle against Sukuna, Megumi keeps throwing around some of the most inspirational quotes in the series, stating how he’s determined to save as many people as he can, even if the world isn't as fair as he wished.

Nobara Kugisaki
Jujutsu Kaisen: Best Quotes By Nobara Kugisaki

This strong-willed Jujutsu sorcerer has made her mark in many ways with these strong words.

Megumi’s life hasn’t been easy, so he knows exactly how unfair and cruel the world can be. But it’s encouraging to hear that he still wants to help people out as much as possible. This was most likely an influence from the man who saved his life and trained him, Satoru Gojo.

8 "I Will Become Stronger. I’ll Do Anything It Takes."

Going To The Next Level

Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki shocked to learn that Yuji Itadori was alive after all.
  • Said In: Chapter 12 (Manga) Episode 6 (Anime)

This is a feeling that Megumi shares with his classmate & friend, Nobara Kugisaki, right after the apparent death of Yuji Itadori. And it’s impressive because it shows a brand-new dimension to his character. How is it that one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen so far apparently needs to get stronger?

Moments like these are what make Megumi Fushiguro such a likeable character because, even though he’s powerful, and he’s aware of it, he doesn’t let it go to his head. He’s aware of his flaws and his defeat against Sukuna reminded him that, if he gets stronger, he will be able to save more people, and even himself.

7 "I’ll Kill You If You Die Again!"

Afraid Of Losing His Friends

Megumi Fushiguro tells Yuji Itadori that he's going to kill him if he dies again.
  • Said In: Chapter 48 (Manga) Episode 19 (Anime)

This is one of his most humorous quotes, which he says to Yuji Itadori when fighting a very powerful curse, right after it was revealed that he was alive and that he had been hiding from his classmates for months. The threat of killing someone if they die again is hilarious at first, but there’s some depth to this quote.

This threat just confirms how seriously Megumi feels about his friends. Even though he’s fully aware of how dangerous Jujutsu Society can be, he can’t help but grow attached to those who fight alongside him. So he’s not going to let them go easily, even if he’s a tad intense when saying it out loud.

6 "Never Mind! Bring Forth The Deepest Shadows And Don’t Worry About The Exact Form For Now. Just Push It Forward From Your Cursed Energy. Here We Go! Domain Expansion!"

Going Beyond His Limits

Megumi Fushiguro summons an incomplete version of his Domain Expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden.
  • Said In: Chapter 58 (Manga) Episode 23 (Anime)

Just like any other action Shōnen anime, the characters in Jujutsu Kaisen have a collection of characteristic phrases that they repeat when using attacks in battle. And, as a user of the Ten Shadows Technique, Megumi has a lot of good ones. But his very first attempt to summon a Domain Expansion was one of the highlights of this character.

Domain Expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen is an important strategy in the series, but only a few characters can do it.

When Megumi first fought a Finger Bearer curse, he couldn’t do anything to it. But he had been getting stronger ever since. So, when he fought another curse of this kind, he knew exactly how to exceed his limits and manifest an incomplete form of his Domain Expansion, known as Chimera Shadow Garden, in one of the series’ most amazing scenes.

5 "With This Treasure, I Summon Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga!"

Megumi’s Final Gambit

Megumi Fushiguro summons his most powerful Shikigami: Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga.
  • Said In: Chapter 117 (Manga) Episode 41 (Anime)

Many times during the course of the story, Megumi said the words “With this treasure…” in the middle of a battle, yet he was always interrupted. This built intrigue among the audience, who were eager to see which Shikigami was so powerful that Megumi felt like he needed to use it when fighting against the strongest of enemies.

But the Shibuya Arc finally answered this question, and it did not disappoint. Mahoraga is Megumi’s strongest Shikigami, to the point that not even he can fully control it. When Megumi recites this long and incredible incantation, he’s not only summoning a mighty creature, but he’s using his final ability. He's going to extremes and basically sacrificing himself in order to save the world.

4 "We Aren’t Heroes Fighting For Justice. We’re Jujutsu Sorcerers. No One Can Ever Truly Judge Us, So We Must Continually Prove The Worth Of Our Existence. And We Don’t Have The Luxury Of Thinking About Ourselves. We’ve Just Got To Save People. I Believe That Was The Original Principle Of Your Actions. So Start By Saving Me Itadori."

The Truth About Jujutsu Sorcerers

Megumi Fushiguro asks Yuji Itadori for help to enter the Culling Games.
  • Said In: Chapter 143 (Manga)

This is said to Yuji Itadori, when Megumi is trying to get him to return to Jujutsu High after the events of the Shibuya Arc. But his friend feels extremely guilty because of everything that happened, including when Sukuna forced him to kill a lot of innocent people. And this long yet impressive quote encapsulates Megumi Fushiguro’s character perfectly.

Despite his attitude, Megumi is a heroic sorcerer who wants to save everyone no matter what. However, he’s fully aware of how corrupt and unfair Jujutsu Society can be. They’re not heroes, and nobody can judge them if they fail to save people. But they also need to show how necessary they are for this society and to keep pushing forward, even if things get even worse. This concludes with Megumi asking Itadori for help to enter the Culling Games. And thankfully, these words were of great help to his good friend.

3 "You've Done Enough. I Wanted To Create A World That Wouldn't Expose Tsumiki To Injustice And Unhappiness. And If I Couldn't Do That, Then At Least I Wanted To Preserve Our Fragile Lifestyle As Much As I Could While I Was Still Alive. I Wanted To Eat Food That I'm Used To Making And Gaze At The Laundry Hanging In The Sun And See Tsumiki Off As She Walked Side By Side With Someone Like You In The After-Noon Light. Then I'd Think About How Happy I Was"

Thinking About The Life He Wanted To Have

Megumi tells Itadori that he has done enough.
  • Said In: Chapter 266 (Manga)

Megumi Fushiguro’s body was taken over by Ryomen Sukuna during the final arc of the series, so he was absent from the story for an extended period of time. But, when Yuji Itadori finally got a chance to save his dear friend, the two had a one-on-one conversation that unveiled Megumi’s true feelings.

In this simple but endearing conversation, he confesses how he wanted to protect Tsumiki and preserve the normal life that they used to have. Sadly, most of that life is gone after his sister’s tragic death, but Megumi is still extremely thankful to Itadori for saving him from Sukuna’s possession. This was a defining moment for him, as his character arc is slowly wrapping up before the series’ ending.

2 "I Never Intended To Live A Normal Life. The World Is Full Of People Besides Myself. Once More... I Think I'll Live For Others."

He Told Sukuna To His Face That He Was Going To Keep On Living

Ryomen Sukuna tries to taunt and demoralize Megumi.
  • Said In: Chapter 268 (Manga)

Megumi lived most of his life as a sorcerer for the sake of his sick sister, Tsumiki. And thus, his soul finally plunged into darkness & despair when she died, which was maliciously planned out by none other than Sukuna. But when the combined efforts of Itadori, Nobara and Megumi were enough to finally defeat the King of Curses, the two had one final internal confrontation.

With his dying breath, Sukuna tried to taunt Megumi and make fun of him for everything that the young sorcerer had lost during the final battle. But he didn’t cave in and rejected Sukuna’s ideas, claiming that not only was he aware that he was never going to live a normal life, but that it was the actions of kind people like Yuji Itadori what inspired him to keep on living, to help others just like they had helped him.
