There are only a handful of characters that are worthy of taking on Sukuna in combat.

While defeating him is a task that is nearly impossible for the vast majority, rivaling him is a different thing altogether. There are quite a few characters who can, at the very least, rival him in terms of power. When it comes to defeating him, however, only one character stands a chance.
Updated on June 6, 2024, by Rei Penber: Ryomen Sukuna is the strongest individual that the fans have seen in JJK and he has certainly lived up to the expectations, as is evident from his showing in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. Sukuna is on an entirely different level when compared to the vast majority of the sorcerers seen in the series, apart from Gojo. That said, while none other than Gojo can beat him at the moment, there are many who can rival him and give him a good challenge.
This list already goes over quite a few individuals who can challenge him to a good battle in JJK and given the latest developments in the story, quite a few more have emerged in the story that deserve a mention of their own. As such, this list has now been updated.
Please note that these sorcerers cannot necessarily beat him. Just rival him enough to give him a good fight that he relishes.
13 Kashimo
A Ghost From The Past

Hajime Kashimo, also known as the Lightning God, is a very powerful sorcerer that the fans have seen quite a lot of In the Culling Game Arc. In the Shinjuku Showdown arc, Kashimo battled against Sukuna, and it is safe to say that he did reasonably well.
In his Mythical Beast Amber mode, he was able to overwhelm Sukuna and force him to utilize his true form. Of course, after this, Kashimo was utterly overwhelmed by Sukuna and was killed. Still, for a short while, he was able to rival the King of Curses.
12 Suguru Geto
A Special Grade Sorcerer

Suguru is a very powerful curse manipulator and one of the most talented sorcerers to have lived in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Fans see him take on the role of a villain in the story, largely thanks to Kenjaku. Suguru is believed to be the worst of all curse users and he's exceptionally skilled at using curses. At the same time, he is also very skilled at hand-to-hand combat, which most people do not expect him to be, given that he fights from a range usually.
Suguru could hold his own against Satoru, despite not being as strong as him and, given that he could do that, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that he could also rival Sukuna. Of course, defeating the King of Curses would be impossible for him.
11 Yuki Tsukumo
A Special Grade Sorcerer

Yuki is one of the strongest characters in the entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen. She is the mentor of Aoi Todo and she aims to create a curse-free world using her own power. Yuki possesses incredible strength and it is further backed up by her Star Crush ability, which adds tremendous weight to her attacks.

These cursed techniques have been phenomenal in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc in JJK.
In combat, she could even overpower Kenjaku, however, the calculating mind of the latter got the better of her. Being a Special Grade, it is no surprise that Yuki could rival Sukuna in combat. However, just like the vast majority of the characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, she certainly would not be able to defeat him.
10 Mahito
A Curse With Tremendous Potential

Mahito is one of the most powerful curses seen in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. According to him, he is born out of the hatred that humans possess. Mahito is incredibly dangerous and has the ability to alter the souls, and, consequently, the bodies of anyone he touches.
Mahito was incredibly overpowered and even Special Grades would have trouble dealing with his powers. While he is certainly not as strong as Ryomen Sukuna, Mahito would pose quite a challenge to him in combat and that in itself is a massive feat for anyone.
9 Toji Fushiguro

Megumi's father, Tojo Fushiguro is an incredibly powerful fighter in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Fans see him as one of the main antagonists in the second season of the story. Toji possesses incredible physical prowess, and he is so strong that even Satoru Gojo couldn't contend with him on an even footing.
Of course, it must be remembered that Satoru was far younger back then, however, the fact that he could push him so far only means that Toji can, at the very least, hold his own against Sukuna for quite a while. He's known as the Sorcerer Killer and that alone goes to show that he can hold his own against some of the very strongest if he crosses paths with them.
8 Kinji Hakari
A Sorcerer With Tremendous Luck

Kinji Hakari is one of the strongest sorcerers of the modern era that Gojo believed could one day reach his level of strength. He is an incredible user of cursed energy, which is believed to have a rugged edge in his case, which only amplifies his attacks even further.
He makes use of his Cursed Technique, Private Pure Love Train through his Domain Expansion, called Idle Death Gamble. Essentially, this gives him a pachinko-based game at a train station where, if he lucks out, he gains infinite cursed energy for 4 minutes and 11 seconds. During this time, he can also regenerate from any and all injuries automatically, essentially making him invincible. Since his cursed energy gets restored during this time, he can then utilize this technique again, and this time, with even easier odds. He is certainly an incredible fighter, and his control over reverse cursed technique is actually so great that it is believed to be faster than both Sukuna and Gojo's. He is certainly a worthy potential who could eventually rival Sukuna.
7 Hiromi Higuruma
A Gem With Gojo Level Potential

Hiromi Higuruma is one of the characters who were granted the power to manifest a cursed technique by none other than Kenjaku, who remotely activated it within certain individuals using Idle Transfiguration. Higuruma was given the power to summon a shikigami called Judgeman, who resembles Lady Justice. He utilizes this shikigami primarily through his Domain Expansion, called Deadly Sentencing.
Inside the domain, any use of force is prohibited and the target is then put on trial. Hiromi becomes the prosecutor and, if they are found guilty, they can have their cursed technique confiscated or receive a death sentence which can be carried out using the Executioner's Sword.

Hiromi is an incredible potential who mastered cursed energy to a degree where he could rival a Grade 1 Sorcerer in just 12 days. It is now officially confirmed that he has the potential to match a Gojo, and, by extension, Sukuna as well. While he hasn't realized his powers fully just yet, in time, he will fulfill his potential and become one of the strongest modern sorcerers.
6 Maki Zenin
A Sorcerer With No Cursed Energy

Maki is one of the strongest sorcerers in JJK and she certainly deserves a mention when it comes to the sorcerers who can rival Sukuna. Maki should be on a level above Toji at this point in time, given that she has gotten stronger ever since she was declared equal to Toji. She has actually fought against Sukuna already. She was able to stab him right through his heart, and, had Sukuna not been in Megumi's body, he would have died as he wouldn't have been able to heal at the time.
Maki even managed to overwhelm Sukuna to a certain degree in terms of hand-to-hand combat. Even though she was on the receiving end of two black flashes, she was still strong and fought back against him valiantly.
5 Yuji Itadori
A Sorcerer With Potential Equal To Sukuna

Yuji Itadori is the protagonist of the series, and of course, when it comes to the sorcerers who can rival Sukuna, he has to be up there. Even though Yuji is far from his maximum potential, he is ready a very skilled sorcerer who can, one day, reach the same level as the likes of Sukuna. More recently, Yuji has learned the usage of reverse cursed technique.
To bolster that, he has also learned how to use blood manipulation, which is a very powerful cursed technique.
That certainly is not all focused up after Yuji's incredible black flash against Sukuna, he has hit a completely new level of power. Yuji has now undergone an awakening, and after this, awakened the power of Shrine. Calling him a rival of Sukuna is not going to be a stretch at all.
4 Kenjaku
One of JJK's Biggest Villains

Kenjaku is an ancient sorcerer who managed to stay alive for around a thousand years. By switching bodies, Kenjaku has continued to live and he still does so right now. His goal is to rise to an age that is comparable to the Heian Era, that he belongs to.
For the longest time, Kenjaku made use of Geto's body. In combat, he is incredibly difficult to take on and has shown strength great enough to overpower the likes of Choso and even Yuki on occasions. His biggest asset in combat is his brain and he understands things on a deeper level than most characters. He is also among the smartest in the entire series and that is precisely what leads him to outsmart and defeat his enemies.
