To say that the ending of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga was divisive would be an incredible understatement. When it aired, detractors claimed it to be one of the worst endings to a series they had ever witnessed, claiming that the story was rushed and plot points were conveniently glossed over for no apparent reason. At best, many supporters of Gege's ending for the series just claimed that it was just okay.

Because of this, there have been many rumblings about a potential sequel to the Jujutsu Kaisen story, since there were many loose ends that were left unanswered, which many felt were only included for there to be a follow-up to the series. There are a lot of plot points that need to be covered.

The ending of Jujutsu Kaisen will go down as one of the most divisive in the entire anime industry, mostly because of how popular and beloved the franchise has become over the years. Naturally, for a series that reached such magnitudes of success, the ending was never going to appease everyone. However, most fans were left unhappy with the way things played out, which sets up one of the biggest reasons why there should be a sequel.

More importantly, however, is the fact that the final chapters of the Jujutsu Kaisen story set up many questions that were left unanswered. These questions weren't just vague mysteries left to wrack the minds of the readers, rather, they were so notable that they almost demanded the need for a sequel since they seemed to have massive implications for the future. The most important of these was the potential resurrection of Kenjaku, who was implied to have survived his ordeal and was seen again conversing with Takaba in the final chapter.

Kenjaku was the great mastermind of the story and one of the central antagonists who was directly responsible for everything from the imprisonment of Gojo in the Shibuya Incident arc to the resurrection of Sukuna, so him being alive is incredibly important. Moreover, this also implies the eventual fulfillment of his ultimate plan, which was to make the ultimate Cursed Spirit to satiate his curiosity, which many fans felt was an odd plot point to mention if it was never even going to happen.

Such important reveals and possibilities for the villains going forward almost demand a follow-up on their own. Moreover, some of the most important things regarding the heroes weren't shown either, such as Yuji's long-awaited Domain Expansion and Megumi's mastery of the Ten Shadows. This has led fans to believe that these are being saved for a sequel, as well as potential reincarnations of Gojo and Sukuna.

There isn't more of the story left to tell.

Conversely, the opposite sentiment within the community is that the story is complete and doesn't need a follow-up. Of course, much of this has to do with the disappointment that fans felt with the actual finale, since they believed that the ending was rushed and concluded in one of the worst ways possible, which has gone on to make many of them outright lose interest in Jujutsu Kaisen altogether.

The common sentiment here also agrees that there is a lot of mystery in the finale that justifies a sequel, particularly about Kenjaku and the ultimate Cursed Spirit. However, as sad as it is to say, the way Jujutsu Kaisen's ending was handled by Gege Akutami has largely left many with a lot of mistrust in him, so they feel that any new series may just be handled as poorly. If this is the case, then getting into this potential sequel may ensure the same kind of rushed storytelling and eventual disappointment for them.

Regret, huh? I've forgotten what that feels like.

Of course, nothing can definitively be said about this potential follow-up in this regard until it comes out, but it can be seen why many just aren't interested in this world anymore. Some even called Jujutsu Kaisen's ending to be one of the worst in manga history, so even if it was made that way deliberately in order to ensure a sequel, their interest in the world has completely waned.

The most commonly cited complaint regarding this finale is that people claim it to be bad writing by Gege Akutami that was merely rushed just so he could be done with the whole thing. They feel that if someone could just abandon a series as intricate and beloved as Jujutsu Kaisen and rush its finale, then they would likely do the same for the sequel, which would really dampen any excitement for it.
