Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Reveals His Original Main Character Of JJK
Gege reveals Yuji was not supposed to be the main character. Here's who could have been the face of the JJK series.
Of course, Gege Akutami answering the questions of the fans about some of the most exciting developments in the story only makes the fans even more excited, and that's what happened recently. On April 19, Jujutsu Kaisen had an exhibition where Gege Akutami revealed the answers to some very big questions. Surprisingly, Gege also spoke of the influence that Naruto had on his story.
Gege Was Inspired By Bleach And Even Naruto
- Gege’s Story Has Many Similarities With Naruto
- Gege Absolutely Loves Bleach
When it comes to inspiration, Gege Akutami holds Naruto and Bleach in very high regard. This isn't surprising at all, given that they're two of the most popular manga to exist in the world. Gege has always been a fan of various manga himself, which isn't surprising for mangaka. For instance, Kishimoto himself drew a lot of inspiration from stories, such as Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama, and presumably even Yoshihiro Togashi. Oda drew inspiration from Dragon Ball as well, and this is the case with all authors. It just goes to show how much respect they have for these authors and how much of a profound influence the authors had on their works.
Haven't we had enough of Gojo Satoru already? — Gojo to Yuji
For Gege, things are no different. He has loved Bleach and right from the get-go, fans can see the similarities in the two stories. Gege is also a Naruto fan, and he has taken inspiration from the story on many occasions.
The Yuji-Sukuna Connection Is Similar To Naruto's Relationship With Kurama
Gege Comments On Yuji And Sukuna's Bond
Recently, during the JJK Q&A event, fans saw the author answer many important questions. He also touched upon his character bonds and the inspirations behind them, and one particular relationship he talked about was that of Yuji and Sukuna. According to Gege Akutami, Yuji’s relationship with Sukuna is somewhat similar to the relationship between Yuta and Rika. Just as Yuta has Rika, Yuji has Sukuna inside of him. Of course, Sukuna took a completely different path, however. The author then goes on to compare the relationship between Yuji Itadori and Sukuna to that of Naruto and Kurama.
How Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen Was Inspired By Tite Kubo's Bleach
Gege, the creator of JJK, was heavily inspired by Kubo's Bleach. One of his main characters is based on a Bleach character.
For Yuji, Sukuna is like Rika is to Yuta, similar to Naruto's relationship with Kurama. — Gege Akutami
Gege Adds His Own Twists
Just like Sukuna, Kurama was a mass of hatred and always worked to further his own goals. Kurama was an enemy to Naruto at first, but of course, eventually, Kurama joined hands with Naruto.
But, there are differences. For instance, Sukuna never joined hands with Yuji, and always worked for himself. Sukuna was the final villain of JJK, and Yuji ended up defeating him. In this way, the author certainly adds his own twists to the inspiration that he takes from other stories, and that is fascinating, to say the least. That said, Yuji did offer a helping hand to Sukuna at the end, and if he had taken it, the two would've had a relationship just like Naruto and Kurama, and that would've been fun in its own way.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s last chapter, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on the Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps.
