The Jujutsu Kaisen anime returned with its third season a few weeks ago, and as expected, it has turned out to be yet another phenomenal project by MAPPA. At this point, it is quite clear that the studio can do no wrong and everything it touches turns to gold.

Jujutsu Kaisen fans are certainly grateful to MAPPA for maintaining the quality, especially while adapting the Culling Game arc. In the first three episodes, the Culling Game has been mentioned multiple times by various characters, but what is it truly about?
What Is The Culling Game In Jujutsu Kaisen?
Kenjaku Plans To Use Culling Game To Evolve Humans

The Culling Game may seem like a competition on the surface, but the reality is dramatically different. For centuries, Kenjaku has been trying to come up with ideas to evolve humanity, but he has either hit a dead end or he has been stopped by someone else. According to Tengen, Kenjaku was stopped twice by the person possessing Six Eyes. This led to Kenjaku killing the next user of Six Eyes along with the Star Plasma Vessel. Unfortunately for him, the new vessel and the new user were born at the time of Tengen's assimilation.
After failing again, Kenjaku had to change his approach, which is why he decided to seal away the Six Eyes user, as the ability cannot be possessed by two people at once. Kenjaku also got lucky as Toji Fushiguro killed the Star Plasma Vessel, which broke the chains of fate that bound her to Tengen and Gojo Satoru. Afterward, Kenjaku began searching for the Prison Realm to seal away Gojo Satoru, and he finally succeeded in the Shibuya Incident arc. With no one to oppose him, the ancient sorcerer was free to do what he wanted.
The Culling Game Needs To Be Stopped At All Costs
As previously stated, Kenjaku desires to forcibly evolve humans in Japan, and for that he needs Tengen. He wants to pit sorcerers and non-sorcerers against each other, so that their cursed energy can be optimized and they reach a new level. The Culling Game is the perfect stage for his plan, and it is safe to say that the sorcerer might actually get what he wants. If that were to happen, thousands and maybe even millions of people could end up dying. To stop Kenjaku, Itadori Yuji and his friends need to participate in a Culling Game and beat the ancient sorcerer at his own game.
The Rules of Culling Game In Jujutsu Kaisen
The Culling Game has eight rules that must be followed by everyone competing in the competition.
- Anyone who has awakened their cursed technique must declare their participation within 19 days at the colony of their choice.
- Any individual who breaks the first rule will lose their cursed technique. Tengen confirmed that it would result in the death of the person. Players who possess no cursed technique will not die from this rule.
- Non-players who enter a colony will become players. It will be considered a sign of their willingness to participate. However, people who are already inside a barrier will be given the opportunity to leave once.
- The only way to earn points is by killing other players.
- Each player is assigned players depending on their skills by the game master. To lessen the confusion, each sorcerer's life has 5 points, while a non-sorcerer's life is valued at 1 point. Cursed Spirits are also worth 5 points.
- Players who gain 100 points can ask the game master to add any new rule, provided it doesn't impede the Culling Game. Also, the point value of a player doesn't count towards their accumulated points. Furthermore, the player cannot ask any previous ruler to be subtracted.
- The game master has to add any new rule, as long as it doesn't negatively impact the Culling Game.
- If a player's score doesn't change for 19 days, then their cursed technique will be removed, meaning they will die.
Since the Culling Game is not in full flow, there have been no new rules, but that will change in the upcoming episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen. The heroes have been divided into several teams, with Itadori and Yuta already on their way to participate in the Culling Game and save Gojo Satoru. They know that time is short, and they must hurry or risk watching the deaths of many people.
