Gege Akutami, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen, has recently been answering a lot of questions surrounding the ending of the story, and the many characters that were central to the plot at this point in the story. Naturally, the likes of Gojo Satoru, Yuji Itadori, and Megumi Fushiguro, were the main talking points in this Q&A. Of course, the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, who is known to be an absolutely monstrous villain, was talked about as well.

Gege paid a lot of attention to Sukuna during the last few arcs of the story, and this was only natural. Sukuna was the King of Curses and someone that the story built up as the main antagonist right from the get-go. At the same time, the immense pressure of making Sukuna a compelling main antagonist ensured that he thinks his plotlines concerning Sukuna through, and that's precisely what he did. As has recently been revealed, Gege had plans for Sukuna that predate even Jujutsu Kaisen itself, and that's absolutely incredible to consider.

The Rise and Fall Of Ryomen Sukuna In Jujutsu Kaisen

  • Sukuna Returned In Jujutsu Kaisen Early
  • Sukuna Fell At Yuji's Hands

Jujutsu Kaisen fans became familiar with Ryomen Sukuna quite early in the story. Sukuna, the King of Curses, was introduced right at the beginning of the story and he became an integral part of the plot when Yuji ate one of his fingers. Sukuna existed through Yuji, and that's what made the story interesting.

You Are Me, Yuji Itadori. I Kill Without a Second Thought — Just Like You Save People Without a Second Thought.

In many ways, Sukuna was like Kurama from Naruto, and this is something that the author confirms himself. In the recent JJK Q&A, Gege confirms that Sukuna's relationship with Yuji is based on Naruto and Kurama in some ways, which is very apparent. As the story continued, Sukuna caused all sorts of problems for Yuji Itadori, but none was more chaotic than Culling Game, where he eventually switched to Megumi Fushiguro.

In this arc of the series, Sukuna switched to Megumi and then, the big battle between Sukuna and Gojo broke out in Shinjuku Showdown, which paved the way for the end of the King of Curses. Sukuna's fall eventually came at the hands of the main character, Yuji Itadori, and he successfully rescued Megumi Fushiguro from his clutches. This is how the story panned out in the end, but Gege's early plans for Sukuna were slightly different.

Gege's Original Plan Was Always To Have Megumi As Sukuna's Vessel

Megumi Was The Original Main Character

Fans know that Yuji Itadori is the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen. However, that wasn't always the case, before Jujutsu Kaisen began, Gege Akutami had multiple ideas in his head for his story, and it mostly centered around the same characters, but slightly different scenarios. For instance, instead of Yuji Itadori being Sukuna's vessel, it was actually Megumi Fushiguro. In Gege's original story, Sukuna and Megumi would be together right from the get-go.

Gege Decided This Before Jujutsu Kaisen Even Began

As such, the idea of Sukuna taking over Megumi was always going to happen. Gege made changes, such as having Sukuna switch from Megumi to Yuji at first. But, in the Culling Game, Sukuna went back to Megumi, meaning Gege's original plan was now in action. According to Gege Akutami, Sukuna taking over Megumi was decided right from the start.

Gege also stated that Gojo's death was something that he had planned right from the beginning as well. In other words, Gege most likely had the idea of Sukuna killing Gojo right from the very beginning of the story, which is what he executed in the end.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s last chapter, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. The final Volume for Jujutsu Kaisen dropped on Christmas 2024. All physical copies of JJK are available to buy, while fans can also read the manga online on platforms such as Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps.
