Jujutsu Kaisen is one of Shonen Jump's biggest recent hits, quickly rising to be one of the most beloved manga series ever. The series offers a particularly dark theme, mixed with some high-octane battles one after the other, and this makes it very intriguing for the fans. Primarily, it is the exciting battles of the story that keep Jujutsu Kaisen going, and the most iconic battle in the series was definitely the one that saw all the Jujutsu Sorcerers take on the King of Curses, Sukuna. This battle saw the birth of the best trio of the JJK series.

The battle against the King of Curses, Sukuna, was certainly not an easy one. After Sukuna managed to kill Gojo, the fate of the world was put on the shoulders of the remaining Jujutsu Sorcerers, and everyone gave it their all. While almost everyone participated in this battle, a few characters stood out. The first one to really stand out was Yuji. Being the protagonist, Yuji fought hard, and in the end, he was the real reason Sukuna was taken down, much of which was down to his connection to him as a previous vessel.

Yuji isn’t the only one who was shining, however, as Yuta also played a massive role in this battle. Yuta fought himself against Sukuna, even utilizing his Domain Expansion. Not just that, but Yuta eventually took over Gojo’s body and fought to his best. Maki was also pretty useful in this battle. She was able to sneak up on Sukuna and land quite a good hit on him with her Split Soul Katana, taking his heart out. Overall, these three were the most important in the battle after Gojo's fall, and have risen as quite an incredible trio that pushed the story forward.

While Yuji was the main character in JJK, Yuta and Maki’s grandchildren have carried their legacy and become JJK Modulo’s protagonists. Even in magazine advertisements for JJK Modulo, Yuji, Maki, and Yuta are given give highlight instead of JJK’s original trio.

Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi Had Potential But Fell Short

Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi were the original trio of JJK. The three were part of a team, led by Gojo, and fought together in many of the early battles. This trio fell apart pretty quickly, however, after the events of Shibuya, where Gege removed Nobara from the story. Later on, Megumi was also cut out as his body was taken over by Sukuna. This trio only reunited at the very end of the Sukuna battle, but by then, it was already too late to add any real depth to them as a unit, or to keep them relevant, especially as two of the three were severely underdeveloped.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga ended in late 2024 but can be read online for free. It is available on Manga Plus where the series used to be serialized weekly. For fans who want to now check out the new JJK sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the series can also be read on Manga Plus where it will drop weekly. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 6 will be released on October 12, 2025.
