Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami Has Officially Revealed The Successor Of Gojo Satoru

Jujutsu Kaisen fans are absolutely ecstatic at the moment, all thanks to Gege Akutami officially returning with a JJK sequel and breathing new life into the franchise. Fans were starved of JJK content largely since the series ended, but now, Gege Akutami has made his grand return, which means more exciting lore about the world is on the way. Gege's new series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is set 68 years after the end of the Shinjuku Showdown.

Naturally, a lot of time has passed in between and fans are curious to know how Japan’s sorcerers adjusted following the devastating developments of the battle in Shinjuku. The biggest loss that was nearly impossible to cope with was, undoubtedly, that of Gojo Satoru, the man known to be the Strongest Modern Sorcerer. Gojo died in the battle against Sukuna, but that didn't put an end to sorcerers. In fact, Gege Akutami officially revealed Gojo's successor immediately after the end of the story, and as some fans might have predicted already, it is none other than Yuji Itadori, the protagonist of the story.

Gojo Satoru was an incredibly powerful sorcerer, strong enough to fight against the likes of Sukuna and hold his own incredibly well. After his death, it is no surprise that Japan felt a massive shock, but that loss of power was mitigated by a new young generation of sorcerers rising.

The leader of the young generation at the time was none other than Yuji Itadori, and it is he who ended up filling Gojo's boots. Yuji became Gojo's successor in two ways. The first way is simply by carrying on Gojo's dreams. As fans know, Gojo wanted the world of Jujutsu to change forever, but he couldn't do it on his own. He died before accomplishing his goal, but in the last chapter of the series, Gojo officially entrusted his dream to Yuki Itadori, and fans then saw Yuji trying to raise the generation that comes after. The second and more important way in which Yuji succeeded Gojo was by becoming the Strongest.

As fans know, Gojo Satoru was the strongest Sorcerer in the Modern Era, and after his death, it seems that Yuji Itadori gained this title. This was implied in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, where Yuji Itadori was clubbed together with Gojo Satoru as Japan's Strongest Sorcerers. Of course, there is also Yuta Okkotsu, who became the head of the Gojo Clan, and in a way, succeeded Gojo as well.

The New Protagonists Have A Lot Of Potential

Now, Yuji Itadori seems to be too old to be the strongest and Japan has weakened considerably. This means it's time for a new era to officially begin and for new sorcerers to succeed Gojo Satoru. This time around, it seems that two beasts are set to emerge from within the Gojo Clan, and they're the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki, Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu. They possess tremendous talent, and as they go up against the threat of aliens, said to be Sukuna level, they're sure to establish a new era of dominance and become Japan's next strongest sorcerers.

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently one of the biggest shonen series in the world. The manga, which ended in late 2024, can be read online for free. It is available to access on Manga Plus, where this series used to be made available weekly. Jujutsu Kaisen currently has a sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which runs in the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 3 will be released on September 21, 2025.
