Gojo Let His Guard Down
Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the best Shonen mangas of recent years, and its popularity was record-breaking, but the story sadly came to an end recently in late 2024. The story of Jujutsu Kaisen’s final arc saw many characters take on the King of Curses, Sukuna. However, things only got harder when Sukuna defeated the strongest sorcerer in the modern era, Gojo Satoru.
Sukuna defeated Gojo despite the latter being on top of the fight. This has always confused fans, because the attack that killed Gojo, the World Splitting Dismantle, shouldn’t have been hard for him to dodge. After all, Kashimo was able to dodge it, and even Maki saw it, thanks to her Heavenly Restriction. Just like Maki has her special powers, Gojo has the Six Eyes, and should’ve avoided and survived the strike very easily.
Recently, more light was shed on what happened. Jujutsu Kaisen recently had an event in Tokyo, and in that event, Gege Akutami, the mangaka of the series, revealed many answers to frequently asked questions by fans.
Here’s what Gege had to say about how Gojo was defeated by Sukuna:
The slash that hit Gojo happened right after he said ‘This is Gojo’s win.’ I think he let his guard down after defeating Mahoraga. At that point, he believed Sukuna had no way to counter Limitless anymore. - Akutami Gege
In short, Gege reveals that the only reason Sukuna won is because Gojo was not paying attention after he believed he had won. This is definitely a disappointing way to explain Gojo’s death, as it was easily preventable.
One thing this proves, however, is that Sukuna wasn't stronger than Gojo, and that he was only able to defeat Gojo through Gojo's own lack of focus. Gojo could have won the battle had he stayed focused, and that's what makes this reveal even worse.
What Else Was Revealed At The Exhibition?
The Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition was quite the moment for Jujutsu Kaisen fans, who were eager for more reveals to be made by Gege.
The Exhibition revealed the answers to many more interesting questions, specifically ones about Sukuna, as well as Gege’s original plans for Gojo and his inspiration for the character of Megumi.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami Reveals Who Is Stronger Between Gojo And Sukuna
Who was stronger between Gojo and Sukuna has been a long debated question in the JJK fandom. Gege teases the answer to this.
The exhibition also featured new illustrations by the creator, Gege Akutami. Jujutsu Kaisen fans can only hope more events like this happen for the series, perhaps after the third season is dropped.
