The official X (formerly Twitter) posted about the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Based on the wording, it seems that only Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Part 1 will air in January 2026. The decision to split the new season into multiple parts is a bad one, and fans feel betrayed by it, especially since it took such a long time for MAPPA to provide an update regarding the anime.
MAPPA has its reasons, but dividing the third season is not a smart one. While it's certainly true that fans have been waiting for years regarding updates, they wouldn't have a problem holding on for a bit longer. MAPPA could have delayed the anime by a few more months and released the entire season together. Depending on the length of the first part of Season 3, it's possible that the next part could be released in late 2026 or maybe even 2027.

There's no denying that fans are disappointed by MAPPA's choice to split the third season, but there are a lot of positives to look forward to. For starters, JJK Season 3 will be the best one to date. MAPPA has a reputation for improving things with time. The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen was great, but the second season was much better. Similarly, the third season will be on another level altogether. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 will likely adapt the following arcs:
- Itadori's Extermination Arc
- Perfect Preparation Arc
- Culling Game Arc
The first part of Season 3 will cover Itadori's Extermination Arc, the Perfect Preparation Arc, and likely half of the Culling Game Arc (as it is longer than the two). The studio has reiterated that the third season will cover the Culling Game Arc, and that has been the main selling point. So, the expectation is that at least some part of the Culling Game Arc will be adapted in the first part of the new season.
Many fans believe that the Culling Game Arc is the best one in the entire manga, which is why they are eagerly waiting for the anime. There are plenty of fights in the Culling Game Arc, even more so than in the Shibuya Incident Arc. So, the amount of action in Season 3 will eclipse everything that fans saw in the second season.
Jujutsu Kaisen Will Be A Strong Contender For Anime Of The Year
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3's release is still months away, but fans already know that it will be among the front-runners for the Anime of the Year award. Every year, the 'best' anime receives this award. Solo Leveling is the latest recipient of the accolade, but it seems likely that Jujutsu Kaisen will snag the next one.
Aside from Jujutsu Kaisen, a lot of other promising anime are being released in January 2026. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2, Hell's Paradise Season 2, and Fire Force Final Season are also releasing in the same month.
So, JJK has a lot of tough competition, and it will be extremely difficult to push in front of them. Frieren, in particular, will pose a big threat. After all, it's the highest-rated anime series on MyAnimeList. It has been called the complete anime by viewers, and the series is likely to continue its impressive run with the second season. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 is being produced by Madhouse, which is one of the best studios in the world. So, the quality is expected to be just as good as the first.
