Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna Was The Biggest Villain, But Gege Has Officially Replaced Him

Jujutsu Kaisen has been a huge phenomenon among anime and manga fans over the last few years. The series quickly gained popularity and became one of the best-selling manga series ever. The manga ended in 2024, but now the series has a sequel, titled Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. JJK Modulo has yet to properly start, but fans already know who the main villain is—the unnamed Simurian King. A lot remains unknown about this monster, but one thing has been confirmed: he is a Sukuna-level threat. This means trouble for the JJK world. Sukuna, the last biggest villain, has now officially been replaced, and with his alien army, the Simurian King might be an even bigger threat.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the newest sequel written by none other than Gege Akutami, just started serialization recently. The manga has just three chapters out at the moment, but fans are already hooked as the story is being set up. In true Gege fashion, the main villain of the story has already been revealed. That villain is the king of the Simurians, an alien race that is causing trouble on Earth. The King of Simurian remains unnamed for now, but that might change soon as the story progresses.

Not much has been revealed concerning him, but one statement in chapter 2 reveals that he is a Sukuna-level threat, which is quite concerning for the new main characters, who seem nowhere near powerful enough to even tackle weaker threats at the moment. This sorcerer generation, at the moment, lacks the power or the mentorship to even consider fighting this monster, not to mention his army of 50,000 aliens.

Will The Simurian King Surpass Sukuna?

While the new Simurian King villain is stated to be on the level of Sukuna, one thing that can be said with utmost certainty is that his popularity will never come close to Sukuna's. Sukuna has quickly become one of Shonen’s most iconic villains, especially after the insane battle that took place during the Shinjuku Showdown arc where he took on Gojo and many others. It will be very hard for Gege to recreate the insane appeal of Sukuna, but he can definitely try.

In terms of power, however, Sukuna can and most likely will be surpassed. The fact is that the Simurians are naturally blessed with Cursed Energy, so they might be stronger than humans equipped with the power of Cursed Energy. Their King must be a monster in combat, and usually, the villains that come later are stronger. If Gege truly wants to set up a new era in JJK, then the world truly needs a threat even bigger than Ryomen Sukuna. Hopefully, that's exactly what the story will give the fans as Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo continues. The series has a lot of potential, and if it is handled correctly, fans will likely see an absolute hit sequel. The King of the Simurians is sure to leave a lasting impact on the fans, and the only thing that the readers can hope for is that he does enough to leave a legacy and set up a new era that could then be continued, as implied by Gege himself on many occasions.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga ended in late 2024 but can be read online for free. It is available to access on Manga Plus where this series used to be serialized weekly.
