Jujutsu Kaisen Gets An Exciting Update About The Sequel Series 'Modulo'

Jujutsu Kaisen is a hugely famous shonen manga. The series quickly became one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s best-selling manga, even surpassing One Piece in sales quite often. With such a massive success, Shonen Jump was not going to let the series die. As such, Gege Akutami is back with a new manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. This new manga is a sequel to the original story, set 68 years into the future, with new protagonists and villains.

In a message Gege dropped before the release of Modulo, fans assumed that this series would only run for 3 volumes, or half a year. While this might still be the case, Gege’s message could be read differently and imply a longer run, if successful.

A Different Interpretation of Gege’s Message Could Hint at Longer Serialization If It’s Successful

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was highly anticipated by fans the second it was announced. After all, Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga concluded in 2024, and in a rushed manner. Plot points were discarded, and characters were underused. This left fans wanting more after the unsatisfactory conclusion and hoping Modulo could fill the gap, even though most of the original characters would now be dead in the current timeline. JJK Modulo is still a huge mystery, and this is to be expected, as the story only has three chapters so far, and there’s a lot of set-up that Gege is taking care of at the moment. The story, however, seems a bit too slow-paced for a manga that is supposed to be only 3 volumes long. Gege has even included some goofy moments, which isn’t really the norm for short manga. This has led to people reexamining Gege’s message, and a new interpretation can be made.

While Modulo could still just run for 3 volumes, it’s possible that Gege actually meant that he will continue the story further if it’s successful enough. This would be huge for JJK fans and would offer much more content. JJK Modulo will never be as long as the original JJK, but there could be a lot to explore in this new story with the new characters. Besides, if Modulo finds huge success, Jump will press Gege to continue it, and he most likely will do so.

With JJK Modulo’s lifespan possibly heavily dependent on its success, fans are wondering if it will hold up well. While it’s too early to say how it'll perform, fans should keep in mind that Modulo has JJK’s legacy to rely on. Even if the story ends up being underwhelming, fans will still tune in and read it because of their love for the original series. This would be even true if Gege somehow brings in old, beloved characters that might still be alive. JJK Modulo has a lot of potential, and if done right, it could be huge.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga ended in late 2024 but can be read online for free. It is available on Manga Plus, where this series used to be serialized weekly.
