- Mahito's mastery and control over his unique technique, along with his ability to learn and get stronger from every battle, make him a formidable opponent for most of the cast in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Most Cursed Techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen are already pretty dangerous to go up against. From techniques that can slice a person up into tiny little pieces to others that overload the brain with so much information that the person on the receiving end just gets their brain fried, danger lurks in every corner of this world. So, it says a lot when Mahito's Idle Transfiguration is often called the most dangerous of them all.
Due to being a Special Grade Cursed Spirit, Mahito is already incredibly powerful and boasts Cursed Energy reserves far greater than the average sorcerer. His power is exacerbated due to his unique technique, which makes it so 95% of the cast of Jujutsu Kaisen can't even get close to him, so let's break down Mahito and what his terrifying Cursed Technique is.

Cursed Spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen are beings that have been given life from the accumulation of humans' negative energy. When a group of humans collectively fears a certain thing or aspect, their fear, hatred, and negativity about that thing starts to gather and when a certain threshold is met, a Cursed Spirit is formed around the point of everyone's fear. The Disaster Curses were some of the most powerful curses seen in the entire series due to how ubiquitous the fear of their elements is.
This is where Mahito comes in. Mahito is the result of a fear and hatred that humans have of other humans, which is so widespread among the masses that the abundance of Cursed Energy that formed Mahito was almost unending. Due to how common this fear is, Mahito was dubbed the ringleader of the Disaster Curses and was subsequently the strongest of them all.
Mahito is incredibly disturbed and sadistic, taking a sick pleasure in torturing and killing innocent people, something that he justifies by claiming to only be acting upon his nature. This is also why Mahito is the perfect antithesis to Yuji because their dichotomy and parallels are some of the most engaging aspects of the series, as they complement each other's story and development perfectly.
What Is Mahito's Idle Transfiguration?
Mahito's Cursed Technique is called Idle Transfiguration and the most basic way to explain it is that it allows him to alter the shape of someone's soul. The reason why it is considered to be so dangerous is because all it takes Mahito is a single touch to either completely distort a person and turn them into a mindless beast called a Transfigured Human or just kill them outright.
By altering the shape of their souls, Mahito can completely change someone's essence. Another reason that adds to the truly terrifying power of this technique is the fact that Idle Transfiguration requires no Cursed Energy from Mahito's excessive reserves, meaning that he can use it repeatedly without any drain to his power. This attack also allows him to shapeshift almost infinitely, taking any shape he wants or even turning his limbs into massive weapons.
Thanks to the hatred spewed between people... I was born.
Idle Transfiguration is so deadly that it works on about 95% of the entire cast of Jujutsu Kaisen, with the only exceptions being Gojo, Sukuna, and consequently, Yuji. If Mahito can touch someone, he can transfigure their souls and defeat them without any real effort. His entire repertoire is made far more terrifying due to Mahito's intelligence, which allows him to learn from every battle to get stronger, as he can even store Transfigured humans in his person to use later.
This Cursed Technique is also almost impossible to defend against as Reverse Cursed Technique cannot be used to heal it. When Mahito transfigures Junpei, Yuji begs Sukuna to take over and use his Reverse Cursed Technique to heal him, to which Mahito's internal monologue claims that it is impossible to fix the effects of his technique.

Megumi's fate is still unclear in JJK. However, there is still hope for this beloved character.
Idle Transfiguration is Multifaceted
This Cursed Technique, with its base use, is already a supremely powerful technique that would spell doom for pretty much any sorcerer other than Gojo and Yuji. However, on top of that power, Idle Transfiguration has many more powerful attacks that make it far more of a challenge to go up against:
- Soul Multiplicity: This aspect of Mahito's Cursed Technique allows him to transfigure the souls of people and keep them on his person in the form of small items. Soul Multiplicity requires the joining of 2 souls, which both then reject the merger in a powerful reaction.
- Body Repel: When Mahito uses Soul Multiplicity along with greatly increasing the power of the souls that he merges, the output of the soul rejection is far greater, something that he then directs toward his opponent.
- Polymorphic Soul Isomer: Using Soul Multiplicity, Mahito can successfully merge those souls that have weak rejections into a far more powerful Transfigured Human that can deal much greater damage and is far more stable than regular ones.
- Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing: Mahito's true form is unlocked when he realizes the true shape of his own soul, transforming him into a far more durable and powerful state with a hard armor-like carapace that can withstand very strong attacks.

The strongest application of Idle Transfiguration comes in the form of Mahito's Domain Expansion, which is the apex of Jujutsu sorcery that only the strongest sorcerers or Cursed Spirits can perform. When he makes the hand seals and casts the ability, a mass of hands forms and envelopes everyone in the activation area.
In the Domain, Mahito is automatically connected to the soul of anyone who has been caught in this ability. Due to this, Mahito can automatically transfigure the souls of everyone inside, making this one of the most powerful Domain Expansions in the series. He has such mastery and control over it that he can open it for just 0.2 seconds after seeing Gojo do the same in the Shibuya Incident arc.
Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Amazon Prime.
