This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen's Shinjuku Showdown.

Jujutsu Kaisen's manga came to an end in 2024, and the anime is currently entering its third season. The story's finale saw Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara continue down their paths as sorcerers, effectively taking Gojo's place as the new standard-bearers who, hopefully, will guide the next generation. Yuji played a central role in their victory at the end of the manga, an unsurprising development considering his status as protagonist AND his connection to Sukuna, the King of Curses. During this fight, Yuji reached new heights that he had never even come close to approaching, setting himself up to naturally inherit Gojo's status as the world's strongest sorcerer.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji's Potential As The Next Sukuna, Explained

Yuji has tremendous power as JJK's protagonist. He has enough potential to reach the level of Sukuna.

By

However, Yuji is hardly the only character who ends JJK with the potential to make history and become the strongest modern sorcerer, even though he arguably has an edge over pretty much everyone else. Yuta Okkotsu is already ridiculously powerful and one of the most powerful characters in this universe; meanwhile, Megumi Fushiguro also shows the potential to surpass his peers and replicate his sensei's achievements. Megumi grows a lot during the manga's final stretch, setting himself up to perhaps challenge Yuji as the strongest modern sorcerer.

As most of you probably know, Jujutsu Kaisen's sequel manga started in September 2025, which provides hints regarding Megumi's status. We are focusing only on the original manga to avoid spoiling anything about the sequel. However, if you would like to know more about Megumi's future, we recommend checking out this article. Please only do so if you are OK with having parts of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo spoiled.

Megumi's Potential To Rival Gojo Satoru

  • Megumi Has The Inherited Technique Of Ten Shadows
  • Megumi Could Match Gojo

Megumi Fushiguro already had the potential to rival Gojo in the series. Being born into one of the Three Big Families certainly enables him to reach those levels greatly. But, even among those born within the Three Great Families, Megumi was quite special. Megumi was born with the Inherited Cursed Technique of the 10 Shadows. This is a curse technique that not everyone in the Zenin family can inherit, and those who have had the luck to get it gain the potential to reach incredibly high levels.

Do you get what I'm trying to say? – Gojo

Megumi's Potential To Equal Gojo

It can be said that Megumi has incredible levels of talent. In fact, Gojo explicitly stated that long ago, the two heads of the Gojo family and the Zenin family, both of which inherited skills similar to Gojo and Megumi themselves, that is, the Limitless technique and the Six Eyes, and the 10 Shadows technique, respectively, fought and matched each other in battle. When these two fought long ago, the battle resulted in a tie and the death of both of them at the same time.

The implication here is that Megumi can equal Gojo in terms of power if he manages to utilize his skills correctly. The level of talent that Megumi is born with is not gifted to everyone. That said, talent alone cannot take Megumi to the next level. He needs to work hard and reach a level similar to that of Gojo and Sukuna. Megumi took this advice to heart and certainly worked incredibly hard.

It can be said that by the time of the Culling Game arc, Megumi had drastically improved in terms of strength. His control over the 10 Shadows Technique had improved greatly, and even his half-baked Domain Expansion was looking more threatening. But, Megumi was far from the finished product, which meant that there was a higher ceiling for him to reach and potentially even breakthrough. The 10 Shadows Technique alone can make Megumi the strongest modern sorcerer, provided he goes on to master it. But, Megumi can potentially reach a level even higher, and all that is down to Sukuna actually having taken over his body for a significant period of time.

The Case For Megumi Fushiguro Having Shrine

Megumi Fushiguro Might Be Able To Use Sukuna's Shrine

In the Culling Game arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, Megumi Fushiguro was taken over by Sukuna. This was after Sukuna said the words “Enchain,” following which he took a bath that suppressed Megumi's soul. While Sukuna greatly benefited from this switch, utilizing Megumi's body actively meant that, due to muscle memory, Megumi would remember his movements and, at the same time, become stronger. Sukuna's cursed energy was seeping into Megumi's body, and this case was quite similar to the one with Yuji himself. As fans know, Yuji was able to inherit the Shrine from Sukuna because his energy seeped into his body greatly. Due to using Shrine multiple times in Yuji's body, muscle memory saw to it that he remembered this technique well and utilized it in combat greatly once it truly awakened.

A similar case can be made for Megumi as well, although it has not been confirmed whether he can actually go on to use these powers or not. There is no reason for Megumi to not inherit the Shrine if Yuji could do it. Of course, one can say that Yuji was able to inherit the technique due to his blood connection with Sukuna, but, this has not been explicitly stated in the story, and there is every reason for Megumi to inherit this technique as well, given that he too could, at the very least, fight back against Sukuna.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Fate Of Gojo Satoru At The End, Explained

Gojo died early on in the Shinjuku Showdown arc of JJK. His ending was a huge let down to fans.

If Megumi were to inherit the Shrine as well, then, he would certainly be the undisputed strongest in JJK, provided he fulfills all his potential. This would mean that Megumi has access to techniques such as Malevolent Shrine, and even techniques such as the World Splitting Dismantle. The fact that Sukuna used all these techniques in his body means that they should come easier to him once he starts training them. That is one of the major benefits of having Sukuna in his body.

At the same time, fans also know that Sukuna, utilizing the 10 Shadows technique in his body also strengthened him greatly. Megumi should be able to use the techniques of Max Elephant similar to Piercing Blood, just as Sukuna did. He should be able to create the Fusion Beast named Agito and, at the same time, utilize Mahoraga properly, this time much better than before. Megumi has every reason to be incredibly powerful once he fulfills his potential in the future of JJK. When that happens, he will truly go on to become the strongest modern sorcerer.

Could Megumi Be Stronger Than Yuji?

Megumi Would Be Over Yuji's Level With Both Shrine and 10 Shadows

As things stand, Yuji certainly is stronger than Megumi, and there is no denying that fact. However, Megumi can go on to reach a very high level if he fulfills his potential. All Megumi must do is master the 10 Shadows technique fully, which includes bringing a stronger version of Mahoraga that Sukuna employed in the battle against Gojo, under control. Furthermore, Megumi would also have to master techniques such as the creation of the fusion Beast Agito, among many others. Once he controls all of these to perfection and fulfills the requirements for a perfect Domain Expansion, Megumi should be capable of rivaling Yuji in terms of strength.

On top of that, Sukuna’s movements having been imprinted into his body means that Megumi will be able to fight better than ever before. Added to that is the possibility of him inheriting the Shrine, and if that truly is the case, then, there is absolutely no denying the fact that he can actually go on to surpass even Yuji and become the strongest modern sorcerer, possibly getting closer to the levels of Gojo and Sukuna themselves.

Of course, fans don't know if they will ever get to see this, because there is no planned continuation for JJK. But, at the very least, theorizing about Megumi's potential is certainly fun.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s last chapter, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on the Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo started on September 8, 2025, with chapter 17 being the most recent. The sequel is also on Manga Plus.
