Although it is only a limited series meant for a very brief serialization, the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel, Modulo, has already picked up the action greatly, perhaps even rivaling some of the best fights from the original series. The plainest evidence for this is the long-awaited battle between Yuka Okkotsu and the king of the Simurians, Dabura Karaba.
However, despite the entire world being focused on that fight, there's an equally important and deadly battle happening on the sidelines, with Maru taking on Tsurugi Okkotsu. Though this fight may not initially have been as momentous as the first one, Chapter 17 of the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga dials it up to 11 with the return of Rika, the Queen of Curses.

When Modulo released and revealed the existence of Cursed Energy-wielding aliens, the possibilities of where the series could go from here were almost infinite. However, almost all of these possibilities culminate in the inevitable battle between humans and the Simurians for whoever gets to call planet Earth their home.
Eventually, much of the alien's backstory was shown, where they were revealed to belong to the Lumelian clan who, due to their reverence and worship of the mysterious Kaliyan species of their homeworld, were cast out from their planet after a long and drawn-out coexistence with their neighbors of the Deskunte tribe. This led to them drifting among the stars aimlessly until they could find a new place to call home.
Although the initial plan of cohabitation seemed difficult, both sides realized that it could be achieved, with the humans and Simurians cooperating with one another and sharing their cultures. However, this peace would not last due to a devastating mix-up regarding the treatment of the Kaliyans on Earth which led to the near-fatal shooting of Maru's younger brother, Cross.
This eventually led to the conflict between both sides, with the humans nominating Yuka, their most powerful sorcerer, to go up against Dabura, the most powerful Simurian, in the absence of Yuji Itadori. Alongside this, Tsurugi and Maru would cross paths as well in a battle that would eventually turn out to be far greater than anyone anticipated.

Rika Makes A Long-Awaited Appearance To Help Tsurugi Defeat Maru

Long before the conflict between the humans and the Simurians had even properly begun, Modulo spoke about the central disagreement between Yuka and Tsurugi, which was the inheritance of Yuta's ring. Although it had been promised to Yuka by her grandfather, the Gojo clan eventually superseded Yuta's wish, deciding that the eldest child should be the one to get this incredibly powerful object, which gave him the power to summon one of the strongest beings in the setting.
Tsurugi actually managed to hold his own quite well in the initial bout against Maru due to his Heavenly Restriction granting him insane physical prowess at the cost of stripping all of his Cursed Energy. This seems to be quite common with members of the Zenin Clan, as Maki and Toji were born with the same ability.
However, when Maru stops taking his opponent lightly, he awakens his terrifying Cursed Technique which seems to turn the entire world upside down and gives him incredible telekinetic powers. This proves to be far too much for Tsurugi to deal with, even with his Heavenly Restriction and powerful Cursed Tool, almost leading to his death when Maru throws him into a building and piles on dozens of cars to reinforce the damage.
Lying there broken and bloody, Rika finally appears in front of Tsurugi, who is wearing the ring around his neck, bidding him to accept her help. Once he does, the Queen of Curses manifests in a way that fans have never seen before; merging herself with Tsurugi and seemingly gifting her abilities to him as she uses his body herself.
Just say 'I accept'.
This is an incredible thing to witness, since fans may be getting a peek at one of the most powerful characters that can possibly exist within Jujutsu Kaisen. Due to Tsurugi's Heavenly Restriction and Rika being the strongest Vengeful Spirit with some of the greatest reserves of Cursed Energy in the series, fans are seeing a character who can use these contradictory powers simultaneously.
The trade-off of having absolutely no Cursed Energy in one's body is unmatched physical might, but in this new form, Rika sports the same incredible Cursed Energy with the strongest body one can have in the series, making Tsurugi one of the most powerful characters since Sukuna and Gojo. Fans can only wait to see where the story goes from here, but as it stands, the humans stand a very real chance against the strongest of the Simurians.
