This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen series.

Jujutsu Kaisen ended its main story back in 2024 and since then, the series has received a new sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, written by Gege Akutami and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki. JJK Modulo is a short series, but it is certainly a very exciting one. The story is set 68 years after the events of Shinjuku Showdown, where the biggest battle of all took place. Gojo Satoru fought against Ryomen Sukuna here, and even though he lost his life, he opened up the path to Sukuna's defeat.

To this day, Gojo's absence is heavily felt in Jujutsu Kaisen, and fans know that very well. Despite it being quite clear that Gojo is dead, fans are craving his return in JJK Modulo. Unfortunately, Gojo cannot return to the main plot of Modulo, given that he is dead, and it's been nearly 70 years since. However, Gege Akutami has recently brought him back in the new manga with his new project, which is a brilliant color spread.

Gege Akutami has taken a different approach to JJK Modulo than he did to his original manga. When Gege was drawing Jujutsu Kaisen, often, he complained about the fact that he was tired. It is a known fact that Gege's health was deteriorating incredibly fast while handling JJK, and that is to be expected. The work environment at Jump is certainly not for the weak-hearted. It is incredibly taxing, and it strips away the lives of most mangaka working there.

In just a few years, the pressure was too much for Gege to cope with, and his health started giving way. That is precisely why JJK Modulo is being illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki. Right now, Gege doesn't have it in him to write and illustrate the manga. Yuji Iwasaki has done an absolutely brilliant job when it comes to illustrating JJK Modulo, and most fans are thoroughly amazed by their incredible output. However, every once in a while, Gege Akutami returns with a new art piece that he illustrates himself. Gege and Yuji collaborated for the latest colorspread of JJK Modulo.

Yuji Iwasaki illustrated the new generation. On the right side of the colorspread, the new generation featured the likes of Usami, Dabura, Maru, Cross, Yuka, and Tsurugi. On the left side, Gege Akutami drew the old generation of sorcerers. Ryomen Sukuna was drawn opposing Dabura, the King of the Simurians, and fans also saw Gojo Satoru right next to him, opposing Usami, given that right now Usami is the teacher of the new generation while Gojo held this role back in the days of Sukuna.

The colorspread also featured some other powerful characters, such as Yuji Itadori, Nobara, and Megumi Fushiguro as well. It was incredibly exciting for the fans to see Gege Akutami return to drawing manga once again after many years, and his drawing of Gojo once again was a breath of fresh air for all the fans. It goes to show that Gege has not forgotten about Gojo Satoru, and neither has the world of sorcerers, despite it being 70 years since his death.

Gojo Was Drawn Next To Sukuna As The Leader Of The Next Generation

If there is one thing that the new colorspread of JJK Modulo proved, it is the fact that Gojo and Sukuna were the two leaders of the old generation of sorcerers. Sukuna was drawn above all, given that he was the main villain, and right now, he is juxtaposed with Dabura, since the latter is playing a similar role in Modulo. Sukuna's presence in the new color spread was daunting and it goes to show that Dabura is around his level of power as well.

Gojo was seen as more aloof and had his back turned towards others. This goes to show that Gojo did not live and die for strength and power like Sukuna. Instead, he had a different approach to sorcery and cared deeply about protecting others.

Regardless, what this color spread clearly painted was the idea that Gojo and Sukuna were the leaders of the old generation. While Sukuna was the strongest among the villains of JJK, having a presence so strong that even Curses bowed down to him, Gojo was the leader of the sorcerers and sought to change the world in his own way.

Gojo and Sukuna were both absolutely brilliant characters. In fact, it can also be argued that they both received great deaths, only fans wish that Gojo's ending was handled better. Their character arcs were so brilliant that even a year after their deaths, fans can't stop talking about them. Even individuals in the world of JJK themselves can't stop bringing up Ryomen Sukuna, and the likes of Gojo Satoru.

Gojo Satoru Could Still Play A Role In JJK's Sequel

  • The Gojo Clan Is Very Important In JJK Modulo
  • Satoru’s Powers Could Appear Again

Right now, it goes without saying that Gojo Satoru is dead. He is most certainly not going to return to the story through means of revival or play any significant role in that sense. However, Gojo could still affect the plot in profound ways. Yuji Itadori is still alive and his memories of Gojo are fresh. Through Yuji's flashbacks, JJK fans could see Gojo again. Then, there is also the possibility of the Gojo clan playing a significant role in the world of JJK right now.

It's unforgivable to steal the youth away from kids... I still haven't forgiven them for taking a young person's youth away. - Gojo Satoru

The Gojo clan, as fans know, is alive and well, and is stronger than ever before. Their politics seem to be very complicated, and if Gege wants to explore this politics more, then Gojo Satoru could return to the manga in different ways. His influence on the Gojo clan was absolutely massive and it will be interesting to see what Gege Akutami plans to do with this moving forward. At the end of the day, fans just want to see Gojo return. He was an absolutely brilliant character with charisma that cannot be matched by many others. Gojo's return would be absolutely brilliant for this series, and hopefully, fans will get to see just that as Modulo continues.

Jujutsu Kaisen's sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, runs in the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. The series is set 68 years into the future, after the events of Shinjuku Showdown. The main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo are Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17 will be released on January 4, 2026. The release time of the chapter is midnight JST, or 11:00 AM ET (8:00 AM PT). Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
