This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17 is just around the corner, but before the new chapter drops, let’s look back at the eerie appearance of one of Yuji Itadori’s worst enemies in the original Jujutsu Kaisen series. Mahito, the ruthless cursed spirit who was responsible for Nanami Kento and Kokichi Muta’s deaths, unexpectedly showed up in Tsurugi Okkotsu’s dream in JJK Modulo Chapter 7.
Knowing Gege Akutami, he has his reasons for bringing Mahito back in the sequel. While this reason isn’t clear at the moment, Mahito’s appearance is enough to fuel fan speculation about his revival in the story, roughly 62 years after the events of JJK. His grudge with Yuji Itadori still lingers, potentially driving him to manipulate the present events from a distance.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo Satoru Officially Returns In The JJK Modulo Manga
Gojo Satoru is beloved, and fans were waiting for his return. He is finally back in JJK Modulo.
Mahito Has Appeared in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
Mahito Is Still Waiting for Yuji Itadori's Death
Mahito is one of the most iconic villains in the history of Jujutsu Kaisen. He is cruel and twisted, someone who manipulates souls without hesitation. He made a lasting impression on fans, especially during the Shibuya Incident Arc, where he disposed of Nanami Kento in the worst way possible. He terrorized Yuji Itadori for quite a long time by ruining and taking the lives of those people close to him.
Unexpectedly, Mahito died at the hands of Kenjaku, who absorbed him in the final episode of JJK Season 2. However, he showed up in the final arc of the manga, where he met with Ryomen Sukuna in what seemed like a passageway of souls. Unlike Sukuna, who was determined to move forward after his defeat, Mahito refuses to leave, given his unfinished business with Yuji Itadori.
62 years later, Mahito made an appearance in JJK Modulo, specifically in Tsurugi Okkotsu’s dream. It looked like he was still waiting for Yuji Itadori to die, raising the unsettling possibility that Mahito exists somewhere beyond the living world. Worst-case scenario, Mahito has already found a way to revive himself despite Jogo saying that disaster curses often return after a hundred years.
JJK Modulo Might Revive Mahito
Mahito’s Return Might Draw Out Yuji Itadori
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is full of unresolved mysteries, and Mahito’s appearance is one of them. Since Mahito is a disaster curse, it's always possible for fans to see him back for real in the sequel. He could have reincarnated faster than other disaster curses, knowing how he embodies the hatred, fear, and negative emotions people have for each other. Only 62 years have passed but the negative emotions that summon Mahito remain constant and continue to grow in JJK Modulo.
Meanwhile, Yuji Itadori remains missing in action in present-day Tokyo. He is confirmed to be alive and well, but his whereabouts are unknown. According to Nobara, Yuji is tired of attending funerals for his friends, resulting in his disappearance. Even after Dabura challenged Yuka in a duel that would determine the future of Tokyo, Yuji Itadori has yet to show up.
This is our last chance to curse each other.—Mahito
One of the best ways to drag Yuji out of isolation is for JJK Modulo to bring back Mahito as one of the villains. After all, they have unfinished business, with Yuji failing to kill Mahito and vice versa. If Gege were to bring back Mahito for good, whether through resurrection or rebirth, Yuji Itadori would most certainly appear to fight him again. This time, Yuji wouldn’t waste time taking down Mahito.
Mahito and Yuji Have Unfinished Business
Mahito and Yuji have a long history in Jujutsu Kaisen. Mahito has caused so much pain and suffering to Yuji, with Nanami and Junpei’s death, not to mention causing life-threatening injuries to Nobara. Among the villains in JJK, Mahito is one of those enemies Yuji wants to eliminate at all costs.
With Mahito’s potential revival in JJK Modulo, Yuji will get a chance to beat the villain who continues to bring terror not just to him, but to Yuta and Maki’s grandchildren. Fighting Mahito for the last time in JJK Modulo could give him the satisfaction of closure he’s long sought.
