Before Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 arrives in January 2026, fans are enjoying the recent chapter releases of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. So far, more than five chapters have already been released, each one revealing deeper mysteries about the Simurians and Japan’s new generation of Jujutsu Sorcerers led by Maki and Yuta’s grandchildren, Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu.

Between the Okkotsu siblings, Tsurugi Okkotsu has an obvious resemblance to Megumi Fushiguro and especially Maki Zenin. Clearly, he has the same piercing gaze, reserved personality, calm intensity, and sharp intuition that define both characters. However, Tsurugi Okkotsu aspires to be Maki Zenin's successor, someone who could be her ideal replacement in the current era.

Tsurugi Inherits More From Maki Than From Yuta

Maki and Tsurugi share many similarities.
Tsurugi deeply respects Maki and aspires to become her official successor.

Following in the footsteps of Maki Zenin is no easy feat, but Tsurugi Okkotsu has all the means to rise to the challenge and prove himself worthy of her example. Tsurugi truly wants to become the next Maki Zenin, but he knows that reaching her level will require so much resolve, strength, and training. His rise to power won’t happen overnight, but he’s prepared to face every challenge head-on, even if it means fighting alien sorcerers.

Similar to Maki, Tsurugi also has low levels of cursed energy, which was one of the reasons why he trained under Maki instead of Yuta when he was younger. In other words, Tsurugi is also heavenly restricted, which means he possesses extraordinary physical abilities and enhanced combat skills that compensate for his low cursed energy. With Maki’s training and guidance, Tsurugi has grown into a formidable sorcerer.

Beyond that, Tsurugi also shares the same sentiment with Maki when it comes to their clan, believing that no one should limit their potential or even dictate their paths. After the Gojo Clan forced Yuta’s ring into Tsurugi’s possession for his protection instead of giving it to his sister, he was frustrated and offended. From that day forward, Tsurugi vowed to prove the Gojo Clan wrong, much like Maki did by showing her strength and determination.

Tsurugi Okkotsu Is Heavenly Restricted Like Maki Zenin

Tsurugi Has Low Levels of Cursed Energy

As stated, Tsurugi Okkotsu is also heavenly restricted like Maki Zenin in the original Jujutsu Kaisen series. Instead of using powerful cursed techniques like most Jujutsu Sorcerers in the story, Tsurugi wields a cursed tool called Honoyagi as his primary weapon in battle due to his low levels of cursed energy. Armed with Honoyagi, Tsurugi also utilizes the New Shadow Style techniques to further overwhelm his opponents.

Fans have seen Tsurugi Okkotsu fight in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, and so far, he has demonstrated remarkable skill. While he still needs to grow stronger to reach Maki’s level, fans can already see the potential for him to surpass Maki and even Yuka, who is his exact opposite. While Yuka excels naturally in sorcery due to her immense cursed energy, Tsurugi has to work and train harder to compensate for his low cursed energy.

No wonder Maki seemed like a doting grandmother to Tsurugi, as she probably saw herself in her grandson. However, since Tsurugi is determined to walk along the same path as Maki, there’s always a chance he could awaken once his Heavenly Restriction fully manifests. For now, however, no one knows what would cause his latent power to emerge, but it might also have something to do with his sister.

Tsurugi Is Poised to Become Even Stronger

At the moment, Tsurugi Okkotsu is nowhere near Maki Zenin’s power level, but that doesn’t mean he lacks the potential to one day surpass her and become a top-tier Jujutsu Sorcerer. With the current direction of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, fans expect Tsurugi to grow stronger, as the battles ahead require him to push his limits, master new abilities, and even awaken his best form. If humanity ever goes to war with the Simurians, Tsurugi has no choice but to step up and fight with everything he has. He needs to keep himself alive until he has proven his clan wrong about his potential, as well as to honor Maki’s name.
