Summary

  • Assistant Managers oversee mission operations, handling transportation, communications, and reconnaissance.
  • Assistant Managers do not need cursed techniques but some can use cursed energy and shikigami.
  • Assistant Managers train alongside sorcerers, with some switching their major to management.

Jujutsu Kaisen's sorcerers possess other-worldly powers, like attacking curses with straw dolls and commanding spirits at one's will. Still, all the power of the jujutsu world combined would go to waste without the ability to organize. Fortunately, Assistant Managers exist to oversee mission operations, so Jujutsu Kaisen's sorcerers are always prepared.

Assistant Managers take on several responsibilities to ensure the exorcism of curses and the safety of sorcerers. Their job hats shift between chauffeur, liaison, and recon agent. Since the assistant manager role is vital, prospective managers train alongside sorcerers at Jujutsu High. Without their assistance, the jujutsu world may quickly fall apart.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Star Plasma Vessels, Explained

Tengen's barrier plays a significant role in Jujutsu Kaisen. Star Plasma Vessels keep this barrier stable.

Assistant Managers Oversee Jujutsu Mission Operations

These Operations Include Transportation, Communications, and Reconnaissance

Akari transports Nobara, Megumi, and Yuji to an investigation point in Jujutsu Kaisen.

An assistant manager must become a jack of all trades. While jujutsu sorcerers immerse themselves in honing their techniques, assistant managers must study curses alongside various occupational skills.

  • Chauffeur: Assistant managers escort sorcerers to and from mission points.
    • Example: Akari drives Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi to several investigation points while uncovering the mystery behind Yasohachi Bridge (season 1, episode 22, "The Origin of Blind Obedience").
  • Recon Agent: Assistant managers gather vital information to convey to sorcerers before each mission.
    • Example: Ijichi briefs Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi about the cursed womb at Eishu Detention Center and the five detainees trapped inside Block 2 (season 1, episode 4, "Curse Womb Must Die").
  • Liaison: Assistant managers are a communication link between sorcerers on the field and Jujutsu High. They call for backup when necessary and help settle disputes between students and staff.

Assistant Managers Can Use Cursed Energy

However, Cursed Techniques Are Not Required

Ijichi communicates the situation in Shibuya during a phone call in Jujutsu Kaisen..

Assistant Managers usually do not have cursed techniques. However, that doesn't mean they cannot sense cursed energy. Furthermore, all assistant managers must know basic combat. For instance, Akari Nitta cannot use cursed energy. However, she can see cursed spirits. Akari is a "window" (a term for non-sorcerers who can see curses).

On the other hand, Kiyotaka Ijichi can use cursed energy. He wields two barrier techniques that assist sorcerers in their work. The first is a simple barrier technique that uses talismans to conceal cursed techniques. Ijichi's second technique is a curtain barrier that conceals cursed spirits from the general public.

Another cursed technique that assistant managers may use is shikigami. Akutami cites this detail in Jujutsu Kaisen: The Official Character Guide, chapter 2, page 131.

Assistant Managers Train Alongside Jujutsu Sorcerers

Sorcerers May Switch Their Major to Management

Ijichi explains curse grades to Yuji before a mission in Jujutsu Kaisen.

How do assistant managers train? Do managers choose their field of study, or does Jujutsu High faculty choose for them? What does assistant management coursework look like? Let's take a deeper look.

Assistant managers study alongside sorcerers at either of Japan's Prefectural Jujutsu High Schools. While there isn't much information about a manager's course load, one can infer several classes an aspiring manager may take. Curse study is a required subject for sorcerers and managers alike. Furthermore, if a manager has a cursed technique, they would hone it like any sorcerer would. Lastly, one would assume that administrative training is a unique requirement for managers (Ijichi's special skill is Excel, according to Akutami).

In addition to their coursework, aspiring managers go on field missions to assist sorcery students. However, there is no grading system for managers like sorcerers. Still, like any job, the most proficient managers are assigned to the highest priority tasks and take on leadership positions among Jujutsu High's management teams. (That's why Ijichi is always in demand.)

One can take two paths to become a management student at Jujutsu High. New students may opt for management studies in their entrance application (Akari took this path). On the other hand, a sorcery student may decide to pursue management instead, essentially switching majors. For example, Ijichi began his academic career as a sorcery student but decided he was too practical and high-strung to take on such a stressful vocation.
