Wordle is a word puzzle guessing game hosted on the New York Times Games website. This browser-based game has been massively popular on social media, but some have yet to play or master this viral game. Here's how to play.
How To Play Wordle
As a quick note, Wordle went viral in early 2022, and it was afterwards purchased by the New York Times Games. Because of its popularity, it spawned a massive amount of clones, including a multiplayer version of Wordle called Mordle. But the original is hosted on the NYTG site; other sites and apps will have different answers and may have slightly different rules. So make sure to head to the right site when looking to play.
In order to begin playing, choose a starting Wordle word. This word must be five-letters long, should contain at least two vowels, and needs to be a real English word. There are plenty of strategies for winning this guessing game, but it's usually a good choice to have a starting word with a lot of common letters in it, like L or S. Type this word into the site and press enter.
Once the chosen word is in the site, its letters will change colors. This will give players some clues as to the real answer of the day.
- Green = correct
- Gray = incorrect
- Yellow = right but in the wrong place in the word.
Given these hints, players should continue to type new guesses into the grid until they guess the correct word, or they run out of guesses. There is only one puzzle per day; this is a big part of the reason why there have been so many clones of this game.
