How To Play Wordle
As a quick note, this article is only about the New York Times Games version of Wordle. There are tons of copycats out there, including things like the history-themed Wordle clone called Yeardle and even some video game-themed ones like the Fortnite Wordle, but these will most likely have different answers and may even have different rules of play. The NYTs Games version is the original; it was purchased by the newspaper giant back in February of 2022 from the developer.
In order to play, head to the NYT Wordle website. Choose a good starting Wordle word. It should be five letters, a real English word, and should contain common letters. Once a starting word is picked, type it into the website using the in-site keyboard or the device's keyboard. Press enter. This will cause the letters of the chosen word to change color; this will give some clues to the right answer.
- Letters that are correct will turn green.
- Letters that are incorrect will turn gray.
- Those that switch to yellow are right, but they are located in the wrong position in the word.
Players will need to continue to type new words into the Wordle website and watch them change colors until they either run out of their six total guesses or get to the correct answer. There is only one word puzzle per day, and it resets at midnight local time.
