Wordle is an easy-to-play, popular word guessing game. Although it went viral in early 2022, some people have yet to try this game. So here is some help to get new players into this browser-based game.

How To Play Wordle

The original version, and the Wordle that this article is about, is hosted on the New York Times Games Website. Although it was original developed by Josh Wardle of powerlanguage, the newspaper giant purchased this game back in February. Currently, Wordle is free-to-pla y and doesn't require a login, but this may change as the NYT is allowing players to track their Wordle scores with their Games accounts soon.

In order to play the New York Times version of Wordle, head to the site and choose a starting word. It should be:

Five-letters long.
Not a proper noun.
A real English word.
Filled with letters common to Wordle puzzles.

Type the starting word into the Wordle grid and press enter. This will cause the letters to change colors; each of these colors is a clue to the real answer.

Letters that turn green are right and in the right spot.
Gray letters are incorrect.
Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word.

Given these clues, players need to keep trying new words until their six total tries are exhausted. There is only one word a day for everyone; puzzles don't reset until 12:00AM local time. Wordle' s only having one puzzle per day is part of the reason why there are so many clones and copycats out there. Thankfully this means that there are plenty more Wordles out there to try if players are itching for more word games.
