How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a browser-based game currently owned and run by the New York Times Games. Although it didn't create the game, the newspaper giant purchased it back in February of this year. The game is currently free-to-play and doesn't require a login, but this may change as Wordle will soon be trackable through a NYT Games login. But as of this writing, here is how to play.

First, head to the New York Times Game Wordle website. After that, players will need to choose a good starting word to help get them some clues about the answer for today. Wordle starting words should be five letters long, a real English word, and should contain common consonants and vowels like R, L, or A. Take the chosen starting word and type it into the first line of the 5x6 grid on the Wordle site. Press enter. This will cause the letters of the chosen word to change colors.

Green = correct
Gray = incorrect
Yellow = right but in the wrong position in the word.

After getting these clues, players can make their second guesses a little more informed than the first. Players continue to get new clues, come up with new words, and input guesses until either they guess the answer correctly or they run out of their six guesses. There is only one word per day for everyone; puzzles reset daily at midnight.
