Summary

  • Frieren anime to reveal new information in July 2025 at Anime Expo.
  • Second season scheduled for January 2026 release with returning staff.
  • Original manga not ended, series back from hiatus with no final arc plans.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End will reveal new information in July. Frieren was one of the biggest hits in 2023. With a more introspective and contemplative approach compared to traditional shonen anime, it attracted even viewers who are not usually into shonen series. A certain level of success was already expected since the original manga had previously won the Grand Prize in the Taisho Manga Awards and the New Creator Prize in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, both prestigious manga awards in Japan, but the series exceeded expectations.

While the source material is already quite good, studio Madhouse also did a fantastic job turning the series into anime, bringing such a sensitive story to life with high-quality animation. The anime also won several awards in Japan and internationally.

Frieren Anime to Reveal New Information Soon

It has been announced that new information about the Frieren anime will be revealed on July 4, 2025. There is a good chance that the announcement will be made at Anime Expo 2025, since a Frieren panel will be held at 12:30 p.m. On July 4, featuring Chiaki Kobayashi, who plays Stark in the series; producer Yuichiro Fukushi; and composer Evan Call. Fans who will be at the event should definitely check this panel if they can.

The second season of Frieren is already scheduled for release in January 2026, although the exact date remains to be announced. However, since we're still in July, it seems unlikely that they will reveal the date now, although not impossible. A new trailer is more likely to be unveiled, confirming the cast and staff for the next season. The series is expected to feature a returning main staff and cast. The first season was directed by Keiichiro Sato (Bocchi the Rock) and written by Tomohiro Suzuki (One-Punch Man).

Has the Original Manga Ended?

Frieren went on hiatus in December 2024, with no new chapters for months. Fortunately, the series returned to its regular serialization this month. Many weekly series have been going on breaks lately, probably because the pressure and tight schedules affect the health of the authors, although, in the case of Frieren, no reason was given for the hiatus.

In any case, there have been no reports stating that Frieren is currently in its final arc or that the manga will end anytime soon. The author hasn't said whether the following story arcs are planned or when they intend to conclude it. Some readers might have been confused by the long hiatus, but the series will likely keep delivering new content for a while.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is available to stream on Crunchyroll, subbed and dubbed in English and several other languages. The series may also be on Netflix and other services in select countries.
