The Jurassic World Evolution franchise has carved out its own niche in the management sim genre. Blending traditional management sim mechanics with elements from the Jurassic World franchise, the series allows fans to create and run their very own Jurassic Park. Jurassic World Evolution 3 aims to continue the legacy built in the previous games while introducing several new mechanics to keep the formula fresh and engaging.

The Best War Games recently saw a preview of some gameplay footage from Jurassic World Evolution 3 that showcased some of the sequel's new features and mechanics. Developer Frontier has seemingly listened to fan feedback and included some highly sought-after features, such as breeding and the ability to use deep water in park enclosures, as well as heavily overhauling the terrain and building customization options.

Jurassic World Evolution 3 Will Bring a Host of New Features

Jurassic World Evolution 3 will take place shortly after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. The player will be working for DIN, or the Dinosaur Integration Network, as they attempt to fully integrate dinosaurs with humans' way of life. Jeff Goldblum provides his voice for the returning Dr Ian Malcolm, a key character in the franchise since his debut in 1993's award-winning Jurassic Park. The narrative will also feature plenty of new characters, some who will aid the player and some who may have other motivations. The campaign itself will be bigger and better than ever, spanning across multiple continents, with revisitable locations allowing for a non-linear feel.

The preview The Best War Games was shown opened with a camera panning across a park that had been built in the Japanese city of Katsuyama, which is one of numerous exotic locations the game recreates. Full of beautiful vistas and Japanese architecture, the park was bustling with activity from dinosaurs grazing in their paddocks to visitors strolling up and down winding paths. A triceratops enclosure revealed the game's first big innovation: the ability to breed dinosaurs.

Breeding Will Play a Big Role

Players have the chance to take full control of the breeding process in Jurassic World Evolution 3. Doing the relevant research will unlock the ability to create male dinosaurs, which then makes breeding possible, provided players have created a breeding nest in the relevant enclosure. A fully 3D dinosaur viewer can be used to customize dinosaurs' appearances, including distinctive colors, patterns, and even horns to make them stand out from the rest.

Of course, the dinosaurs will need to be made comfortable before they are willing to breed, which means players will need to ensure they have access to things like food and water. Players can even keep an eye on the course of the pregnancy using a fertility chart. If players are looking to pass on specific attributes from dinosaurs to offspring, they can use more structured breeding which scientists will facilitate in a lab.

Once baby dinosaurs hatch, they bring a whole new dynamic to the park, and players can help shape some of their social dynamics by ensuring their surroundings are suitable. Having playmates and role models to learn from ensures a smooth upbringing. Guests will also be all too pleased to witness the cute infants in their natural habitats, with each baby dinosaur bringing with it an 'appeal bonus' that will affect guest morale.

JWE3's Terrain Overhaul

Another popular fan request for the franchise was to make the terrain more flexible and varied. This has been accomplished in Jurassic World Evolution 3, which now allows for jagged rocks and cliffs, adding plenty of verticality to parks. Enclosures can now be bordered with these rocks instead of the usual electric fences, allowing for a much more natural look. Deep water can now also be added to parks and enclosures rather than the shallow, puddle-like water from the game's predecessors. This allows dinosaurs like the spinosaurus to swim as well as hunt aquatic prey, giving the park a more naturalistic feel.

Buildings are still simple to build and place but allow for varying degrees of customization depending on what the player wants. For those who want more intricate building mechanics, they will find them here, with a wealth of options and tools at their fingertips for creating plenty of weird and wonderful buildings. The aim is for these buildings to then be shared in a 'Frontier Workshop', allowing players around the world to use any customized buildings for their own parks. These new features are just a taste of what's to come when the game launches in October 2025.
