A family tragedy pulled Zack Snyder away from Justice League while the film was in post-production, leaving Avengers director Joss Whedon to finish the movie. Fans and critics alike noted a significant tonal difference between Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, with the latter eschewing many of the darker elements of the DCEU in favor of MCU-like jokes. This has left fans calling for the release of the so-called "Snyder Cut" of Justice League that better matches the director's original vision, and now it's finally coming to pass.

It's been announced that HBO Max will premiere the Justice League Snyder Cut at some point in 2021. In order to finish the film, Snyder and his wife Deborah will be signing on much of the movie's original post-production crew to finish visual effects. According to The Hollywood Reporter, some of the Justice League actors may also be asked to record new dialogue so that the Snyder Cut can be finished.

As for what form the Snyder Cut will take, that has yet to be decided. The endeavor, which will reportedly cost somewhere between $20 and $30 million, will either be released as a four hour film or split into six episodes. Since HBO Max is a streaming service, it should be pretty flexible in that regard.
