Killing Floor 3 does have a nice tutorial and a few extra tips dotted around, but there are a few tips and tricks that beginner players should know about to help them clear waves of Zeds \ and take out the game's bosses without too much trouble.

8 Play Together

Safety In Numbers

KF3 Ninja Medic Sharpshooter

At its heart, KF3 is a team game, and it is balanced around sticking together and combining skills to clear out the most enemies possible. New players might feel like going for a wander, but they can get overwhelmed pretty quickly, and with no one nearby to revive them, dying is almost a certainty.

In the first few waves, splitting up doesn't matter so much, but on higher difficulties and towards the end of a run, players will want to stay close to their teammates in order to whittle down bigger and tougher foes and provide some much-needed ammo and health when things go south.

7 Start With Normal Difficulty

It's Harder Than You Might Think

Veterans of the shooter genre might assume that their skills from other games, even the previous Killing Floor entries, will help them easily clear through the hardest difficulties in Killing Floor 3 on their first try. However, the game will quickly put them in their place, with aggressive foes and immense health pools that quickly send unprepared players back to the loading screen.

The Best War Games sits down with Killing Floor 3 lead combat designer Bill Munk to discuss weapon modifications and customization in the upcoming sequel.

Another aspect of difficulty is the skills and mods that players can equip to increase their overall power level during their runs. When a player first starts up the game, these are all locked, meaning that jumping into hard mode with basic skills and mediocre weapons is a surefire way to get killed. As such, sticking to normal for a bit is a fine way to level up and learn the game before the real challenges begin.

6 Spend Dosh Wisely

Limited Supplies, Limited Money

The Player Getting a Multi-tool in Their Loadout

Money is one of the most crucial components to understand in Killing Floor 3, as it dictates what weapons players can buy and whether or not they can go into the next round with a full set of armor and HP.

Within the trade window, there are plenty of options to choose from, but players will want to use their money in efficient ways, like upgrading armor rather than refilling it or buying ammo resupplies to reduce the cost for the whole team. It takes some getting used to, but it is pretty easy to understand when to buy certain weapons and which utility pieces to grab for the next fight.

5 Multi-Tools Are King

From Armor Packs To Entire Turrets

The Player Interacting with an Opened Armor Locker

One of the strongest items that players have access to in Killing Floor 3 is the multi-tool, a versatile item that unlocks a whole new level of power both in terms of support and offense. These tools can be used on crates around the map that contain armor to be picked up mid-round, or to unlock hugely valuable ziplines to be used as a quick escape, both of which make the game a lot easier for the whole team.

Perhaps the strongest aspect of the multi-tool is its ability to activate turrets, which can mow down Zeds like a knife through butter. On many of the maps, there are multiple turrets in the same location, meaning that players can spend just a few 100s of dosh to unlock several insanely powerful gatling guns to help with the incoming swarms.

4 Stick To One Class

Leveling Is Quite The Grind

Leveling up in KF3 is incredibly important, as most of the best skills in the game are at the very bottom of each class' skill trees. This means that players need to grind plenty of matches to unlock the full potential of each class. The trouble comes when players swap between classes, as each individual perk is leveled up independently, which can hurt the progression of a single tree.

A good strategy is to find a class that works and is enjoyable, and to grind out numerous matches with them to level them up as quickly as possible. Then, when players want to switch things up, they can return to the other classes, whilst keeping their original class choice's level intact. The same applies to weapons; players will want to decide on a loadout and max it out without spreading their resources too thinly throughout the rest of the arsenal.

3 Shoot The Red

Weakspots And Materials For All

The Player Looking at Camera High Up

When it comes to shooters of any kind, weak points are always an important detail to keep in mind, which in most cases turns out to be just shooting the head. In Killing Floor 3, this remains the same but with a slight difference when it comes to elite Zeds and bosses, where there are additional weak spots that amplify damage even further.

Any time an enemy has a nice shiny red spot on their limbs or body, it's a good idea to aim for it, as the damage bonus is well worth that extra bit of precision. Aside from enemies, dotted around the map are cameras and dishes, along with other red objects that can be shot for some extra materials. Therefore, no matter if it's a zombie or an object, red should always be the focus of fire.

2 Don't Stay In One Place

Camping Is Never The Answer

When running around the maps slaying Zeds, it might feel natural to stay in one place and try to camp out the wave without moving around too much. While this strategy can work with the early waves, later on, weapon power alone won't be enough, so players will need to use those legs and get running for their lives.

One of the most effective strategies for dealing with the bosses and larger enemies in Killing Floor 3 is to kite them in a route around the map, making use of mantles and ziplines to confuse the AI into taking longer routes or jumping further than it needs to. If done correctly, the enemies will struggle to land a single hit, transforming players into a mobile force that is borderline unstoppable.

1 Use The Environment

Utility Is All Around You KF3 Husk with Cyst horde

The maps in KF3 are home to all kinds of tools for players to make use of, ranging from explosive barrels to breakable pipes that spew out fire onto any nearby Zeds. It's a good idea to make a mental note of where these objects are around the arenas, as hitting them whilst running can be a great way of thinning out the horde as well as taking chunks out of larger foes to be dealt with after.

Also, there are plenty of handy routes that players can take when kiting bosses, like using windows as a sneaky escape route or mantling up onto higher surfaces to create some distance. Knowing how to play the map is a great way of increasing the player's survivability, and each map has its own nuances and tricks that can level up the gameplay in a big way.
